Today we’d like to introduce you to Sanad Rashed.
Sanad, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I moved to the U.S. (Los Angeles, CA) about 5 years ago. I was a dentist who came to the U.S. to continue post-graduate dental studies. I instead choose to become a tennis professional coach. My passion for the game surpasses my desire to practice dentistry. My love for sports in general, and for tennis in particular, make tennis coaching the perfect choice of work for me. If there is no relationship or love story between you and what you are doing, it will be hard to find creativity, success, and happiness.
As a tennis player, I have competed and played for over 20 years. I was a highly-ranked member of the Libyan National First Team, during which time I competed in many big tennis events (including the 2001 Davis Cup). During my Master’s studies at the University of Sheffield (2010 in the UK), I joined the men’s tennis squad. During my post-graduate studies at UCLA, I was part of the competitive club tennis team (winning the regional tournament). I have competed in professional tournaments in North Africa, Europe, and the U.S., and have won several USTA tournaments in Men’s singles titles.
As a tennis coach, I have 10 years of experience, and am certified by both the International Tennis Federation (ITF – level 1), and the Professional Tennis Registry (PTR – level 1 & 3 – Professional), as a Junior Development and High-Performance specialist. I am also a certified instructor for Cardio Tennis (level 1 and 2) & TRX tennis fitness. I am also CPR and First Aid certified.
Currently, I am happily pursuing my Master of Tennis – Professional Tennis Registry (PTR) certification, which received accreditation from the National Council on Accreditation of Coaching Education (NCACE), and is one of the most prestigious programs in tennis coaching and fitness.
As a coach, I encourage a fun and positive atmosphere, where I help players achieve their short and long-term goals. I develop my clients’ technical skills, physical fitness, and game strategy. I work with all ages, and skill levels (from beginners to advanced, and professional), with both singles and doubles players.
As a member of the Professional Tennis Registry (PTR), I participate in continued education, to remain updated and bring me closer to achieving a Master of Tennis certification. Continued Education in sports, and particularly tennis, is very important for me. My passion for tennis ensures that I stay up to date in the field of sports science, and continuously train with world class clinicians and leaders, from both the PTR and the International Tennis Performance Association (iTPA). In addition, I attend annual tennis seminars, in Southern California.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The tennis business has been a bumpy road; like in any business, there are always challenges. The first challenge was marketing my business. I started from scratch, learning how to build my website, shoot and edit tennis video. I learned how to advertise my tennis business to a broader base of clients, and networked heavily to meet new ones. Networking and connecting with other people and businesses is a new experience for me. Also, transportation was a big challenge as I used to use the bus and carry all my tennis equipment with me. Developing my business was a bit bumpy at first, but the challenges are part of the journey.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Sanad Tennis Pro – what should we know?
I am a professional tennis coach, providing tennis lessons. I coach private, semi-private, and group tennis lessons for all ages (kids 10 and under, 11-18 juniors, adults, and seniors), and all skill levels (beginners, to advanced, and professional). I also provide travel coaching service for high-performance tennis players, traveling nationally with players competing in tournaments. I prepare developing professional players while competing at a higher level. I also provide racquet stringing service, and mobile tennis service in West LA (Beverly Hills, Bel Air, Century City and Brentwood), where I provide tennis lessons at in the comfort of my clients’ private tennis courts.
My goal is to be a tennis coach for clients that aspire to reach the highest level of tennis, such as the US Open. I also wish to be a clinician, so that I can travel the world and share my knowledge of this great sport with all the tennis pros and tennis enthusiasts out there
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
All my family, friends (in Libya and the U.S.) and clients that motivate, support, and encourage me to reach the top, whether by helping me market my tennis business, or by being part of my tennis videos, or by referring my service to potential new clients. Also, a big thank you goes out to the PTR staff and clinicians, who are always helping tennis pros to succeed by providing excellent tennis education. Also, I would like to thank Head Penn for sponsoring me, and for including me as a part of team Head Penn professional advisory staff. Finally, I would like to thank Solinco for sponsoring me as a part of the Solinco team program.
