Meet Samuel Gong of Real Graphene USA in Torrance

Today we’d like to introduce you to Samuel Gong.

Samuel, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I studied graphene as a material in UC Berkeley and spent the next few years after graduating studying the material on the side. I then was able to develop a method of graphene production that allows us to produce it in large quantities for a lower cost while keeping the quality high. We officially started our business in 2019 and began implementing graphene into battery technology. Real Graphene started by selling batteries enhanced with graphene creating some of the world’s fastest batteries and power banks.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No. Developing a product had many issues especially debugging. Supply chains to make the final product took tons of research as we only manufactured the cell. Setting up a factory in the first place was also difficult. Then getting publicity required a lot of capital that we didn’t have at the time.

Please tell us about Real Graphene USA.
We make the world’s fastest power banks. Our 10,000 mAh power bank can give your phone 3-4 full charges (0%-100%) and the power bank itself will fully charge in 30 minutes. This means you are averaging about 9-10 minutes for a full charge of your phone.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Yes. LA is a very sizable business hub which makes connecting with people very easy. You also have Riverside nearby which is a great resource for cheap engineering-related labor and even production.
