Today we’d like to introduce you to Samayah Islam.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started my esthetics business in the beginning of 2022. I have been operating my clothing business for three years now and I believe in multiple streams of income. I enrolled in esthetics school in April of 2022 and recently graduated. I plan on taking my state board exam by the end of 2022 to be a licensed esthetician. My goal is to be fully self-employed by the time my son is seven (three years) I am very passionate about what I do and I enjoy making people have better days whether it’s with fashion or skincare. 🙂
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Nothing in life in general is ever easy or goes as planned; we may have a plan for ourselves but I leave everything in Allahs hands and sometimes he has bigger and better plans for us. It hasn’t been smooth but it hasn’t been hard; every day is a new day to learn something and I take pride in being able to wake up every day and learn something new. Everything, obstacles and all have been worth it.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I have a clothing line called Dope As Mom and its meaning is to be inspired, creative, and who you want to be it’s a unisex brand and we just want to make sure everyone is comfortable in their own skin. I just recently started an esthetics business specializing in facials, waxes, lash extensions, and brows it’s always something I wanted to do I just never really had the right push for it but this year I said nothing was going to hold me back any longer. I feel I’m different from others because each piece of clothing or each facial or extension set I do, it has its own meaning behind it for me.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Network, network, NETWORK! I can not say it enough find your audience and your market and network like crazy I enjoy learning new things and getting new things under my belt even if I don’t need it right then and there who knows if I’ll need it later on down the line don’t rely on anyone else to educate you more than you can educate yourself take courses or classes and even workshops and use those tools that you’ve been given and continue to educate yourself.
