Meet Samantha Calderon of The Resume Garden in Burbank

Today we’d like to introduce you to Samantha Calderon.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My business started a little over two years ago. I made a resume for my husband in order to help him with his job search. We were living with his parents, with a newborn. We wanted to desperately change our situation and do better for our son. I put my best on his resume. It was one of the first ones I ever made. He got compliments from interviewers, coworkers and the like. Soon people started asking him where he got it and if they could get one. Suddenly I found a way to bring in extra cash, and thus The Resume Garden was born. I’ve done resumes for actors, part-time workers, executives, and everything in between.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
No, this has definitely not been easy. Many people have taken my resumes without paying, I struggled with finding clients and then when I got them I struggled with pricing and dealing with not having a physical office. I work from home with two kids. It’s not always easy. Recently, my laptop broke. I was without a laptop for two weeks and had six resumes I had to send out within those two weeks. It’s definitely a bumpy road, but so is life.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I am a resume writing company. I create templates tailored towards specific jobs and careers. I think what really sets me apart is my pricing, designs and the care and time I out into each resume. I’m most proud of hearing from my clients and how their resumes really helped them not and that they are going to tell all their friends. I love being able to help people further their career path and reach their goals.

What were you like growing up?
I was a snarky little girl. Very witty and imaginative. I loved to read and write. I was big on poetry. Still am. But my childhood was filled with craziness. I was either outdoors running around or indoors reading a good book.
