Today we’d like to introduce you to Sam Li.
Sam, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My journey started when I was in college and decided to pursue film and performing arts. I remembered being SO JEALOUS of my friends in college who spent their freshman and early years partying and enjoying their college experience. However, I had never before performed or acted or really created digital content in my past since my parents never really supported me. This meant I had so much to learn and catch up on, so I got to work and started on my grind. I produced like a million short films to learn the ins and outs of making videos. I did every play available to me in college theater and practically lived in my acting school outside of college, which I was also attending at the same time.
Eventually after I graduated, I found a stroke of luck and met the man himself, Markian Benhamou, who ran his Facebook Page making viral and relatable videos. We started making videos together and he eventually brought me on board to become a creator for his new page, Smile Squad!
Currently, I’m a full-time creator for Smile Squad and I also make content for my own personal channels, focusing on making relatable comedy content!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I think most journeys as a creative always has its struggles. I sacrificed a lot to pursue these relationships with family, friends, coworkers, etc. I was so hyper-focused on my goal to become a working actor/creative that I think I missed a lot of other things that happened right in front of me.
Besides that, when I graduated college I actually took on some very odd struggle jobs, including live streaming from a dating app. I basically had to talk to strangers(who eventually became friends) for hours and got paid for it. It was really draining work believe it or not and was very unpredictable and unstable as a job, lol.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
Our page Smile Squad focuses on making super-viral and relatable videos on Facebook, Youtube, Instagram, TikTok, etc. Our videos have been viewed over a billion times across the globe, and currently we have over 10 million subscribers across all platforms. We have one mission in mind, which is to make the world SMILE!
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
My goal is to just keep creating videos! We want to be as big as Vlog Squad and focus on creating enough meaningful content to become a household name! We want to inspire others to share the message of living life with positivity and a bright smile!
