Meet Sally Song of Frenz Coffee in West Hollywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sally Song.

Can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today. You can include as little or as much detail as you’d like.
I have always wanted to have my own business. Back when I was in school, I studied graphic design and started my career as a freelance designer. Most of my work was finding brand identity through branding and marketing. Then I went into a media company and became a content creator. I interviewed hundreds of people throughout my career and I have gotten so many inspirations and motivations from them.

I think that was what triggered my passion for having my own business. Also, I got married last year and because I have my husband as my greatest supporter, I wasn’t afraid to try something new.

I started by combining all the experiences I went through. I was able to create my own brand, start my own marketing strategy and begin my journey.

Has it been a smooth road? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I wasn’t expecting to open up a cafe this soon. As I was just starting to look for a good place, the place where I’m at right now was closing out. It was a cafe before so it had everything I needed. Everything went really quick. Even though I had space, I had to look for a good espresso machine, roasters, and become a barista. I had one month to renovate the space and get ready. I spend day and night studying about coffee and did market research. I tried to go to new coffee shops every day. Having to do all of this without any bits of help was hard but I made it through and I’m happy with what I’ve done.

Tell us about your business/company. What do you do, what do you specialize in, what are you known for, etc. What are you most proud of as a company? What sets you apart from others?
Frenz Coffee comes from word Friends. I wanted to be a place where everyone can come in and hang out like they are in friends’ place.

Most important things that I care the most is the taste, service, and presentation. We are a specialty coffee shop, if there’s something you want, we make it. We have a signature drink called ‘Frenz Cream Latte’. It is a sweet latte with cream on top and some edible flower petals. Not only it looks nice, but it also has it’s own unique taste to it.

We try to support local businesses. Most of the products that we carry are locally made. From our roasters to bakery, chocolate bars, teas, oatmeals and more!

Also, our fresh-squeezed juices are made to order. We have lemonade, grapefruit, and orange.

We have almond, oat, coconut milk alternatives, and sugar-free syrups. We use organic matcha powder for matcha drinks and various selections for hot or iced organic teas.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I’m happy where I am right now! I wish I had more experience but it’s never too late. I’ll keep up my work and try to make my customers happy.
