Today we’d like to introduce you to Sally Monroe.
Sally, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started entertaining as a child and began training other entertainers and planning parties about 15 years ago.
We have Silly Academy.com for teaching others how we do what we do and training our own entertainers. SillySallys.com features our party planning and entertainment services from face painting, puppets, magic, balloon twisting, bubble shows, magic shows, dance and singing for all kinds of events. We have performed for some of the greatest universities, celebrities, corporations and children around. I feel so fortunate to do what I love.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
There is the occasional high maintenance mom or the entertainer who doesn’t want to go the distance but 99 percent of the time, the business is joyful and fun. Working from home on the administration side of the business with my own children needing attention is sometimes challenging. When we are getting dressed, my 3-year-old likes to request the clown costume daily and often will paint her nose red at preschool. My 9-year-old says all his friends think it’s funny when people ask what his mom does for work.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
I am most proud of our entertainers. They are truly brilliant and unique and I love working with them. I learn something from my little customers too. Every time we do a show, I feel that warm fuzzy feeling that I know we are doing something special…something to spread happiness. My favorite performances are for children in the hospital. To see those little faces beam with delight and hope…that is what it’s all about.
What were you like growing up?
I grew up as the youngest of 4 sisters. My oldest sister died of leukemia when she was 15. After that, I felt it became my job to make my family happy, to cheer everyone up.
