Meet Salih Mekki of Mekfly in Santa Rita & Wilcox

Today we’d like to introduce you to Salih Mekki.

Salih, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’ve always been around music in a literal since from the day I was born. I began making music and diving into writing when I was 16 and from there, I just learned new tricks and methods to become my own producer. Whether it be recording techniques or ideals concerning chords and drum patterns, I’m always excited to learn something new.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
There have been many ups and downs with music. Times I’ve had self-doubt or felt there was a lack of proof of engagement still happens to this day. What makes me push beyond moments like those is that feeling of knowing I have to trust the process. There are moments where I’ve had to figure out my own marketing and pay for promotions and learn to budget but when things get difficult its a usually an indication that all of these hours and days spent working is worth it.

What do you do, what do you specialize in, what are you known for, etc. What are you most proud of? What sets you apart from others?
I am a hip hop artist/producer by the name of Mekfly. I’m from Oakland California and my style ranges from boom-bap, somewhat chill music to melodic or even jazzy, lush, rhythmic trap-influenced records.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I think my luck has planted me in a position where I was able to meet people who have connections towards the career I want as well as introducing me to the individuals who taught me new softwares and critiqued my craft, in turn, making me, what I feel, as the more polished artist I am today.
