Today we’d like to introduce you to S3LF.
Hi S3LF, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Well, it all started with falling in love with art. Creating something that makes you feel present and takes you away from the mundane life. Long story short, boom. Started creating music as a youth. I made some songs, add a dope ass stage presence, few decades later of grinding I now have a collective called BLVCKWAV. Blvckwav is a group of creatives who design. We made dope pieces of art (both in the physical and digital) and music. The sound is like nothing you heard before and I feel we have something to offer you.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
The road has not been smooth to say the least. Drawing out a vision that is only in your heart and bringing it to life correctly can become challenging. Some of the struggles we faced has been with financing ideas and creating a direction that all understand. With some of the pieces of music/art that we make the ideas can become clear but require big budgets. For example, with the last project we created (BLVCKWAV Volume 1, which is out now and we suggest you check it out), we created a full film script to bring the audio to screen. We did some fundraising and campaigning and raised a good amount of funds, but not enough to bring it all together. It gets disappointing but the hunger never leaves our heart so we are continuing to chase the vision.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a part of a creative collective called BLVCKWAV. What I do, I am a songwriter and music artist who goes by S3LF. I specialize in creating music and artistic performance. The songs/music videos that I have been known for is a song called “99 Lives Contra”, “Don’t Think You Want it” and “Ring That”. The songs and music videos I feel capture what type of artist I am. I’m truly proud of creating these pieces with my homies because of the music videos that came with it. (I suggest you check out all 3 music videos). What sets me apart from others is my ability to be 100% vulnerable with my art. My music videos and live performance have been more of a “death of an ego” type of performance. I am willing to sacrifice myself live in front of an audience every chance I get.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The most important lesson I have learned is to show up to every door you see and to not be afraid of what’s in your heart. This world can shred your heart but what you have on the inside no one else has, so please be the best you you can be.
