Today we’d like to introduce you to Ryota Sakai.
Ryota, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started Delinquent bros in 2010, back in Tokyo Japan then I moved to LA in 2014. I am mostly inspired by 1940s ~ 1950s Vintage Clothing for my designs. I used to be a vintage clothing buyer/seller. I loved vintage clothing so much, I based my brand as a homage to it.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I believe the hardest part for me was updating the fits from vintage patterns to cater to a modern market.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Delinquent Bros – what should we know?
I am a one man show. I am in charge of design and marketing. A lot of vintage details go into my clothing, and I am proud of that fact. Those who understand it will appreciate it just a bit more. Most of my higher-end products I still have manufactured in Japan, to ensure high quality.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Zac Vargas was a big part in the foundation of me establishing my business here in Los Angeles. My headquarters now is inside his store, Space City Vintage, in Little Tokyo.
