Meet Ryan Vettel

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ryan Vettel.

Ryan, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
As a baby, my parents would always find me holding onto furniture, bouncing up and down to the music on the TV, figured they’d put me in dance class (as a joke).  They also saw how my face lit up the first time I saw one of my childhood friend’s violin, and they took it to heart. By the age of four, I was dancing and playing the violin on a weekly basis.  Nearly two decades later the joke’s on them – I stuck with it, and am now pursuing my career in Los Angeles.

I grew up in Carson City, NV and was very fortunate to have had some of the best training a kid in my position could’ve had. My mentors were all direct links to history, they all researched, practiced, and explored information that came from the greats. I wasn’t just taught steps or notes, I was taught the history, taught to explore the why, not just the what or the how.

It didn’t take me long to know what I wanted, which was to be exposed to as much art, culture, and opportunity as I could get my hands on. Naturally, I sought out a life of entertainment on a bigger scale. It didn’t so much matter to me where that was, although I’ve always been more drawn to the west coast. I trained every day and saved what I could so that when I graduated I would be able to move out and do my thing.  Sure enough, come beginning of 2015, I was living the dream in a studio apartment with my pops until I finished school online, after which I found a spot to call my own.

Since then, I have been working as a freelance entertainer out of North Hollywood. I was very fortunate to have stumbled upon some of the best, wholehearted people out here that just so happen to be the some of the best at what they do, & I am even more fortunate to call them family.

Three years ago, I was introduced to a pivotal part of my family out here. A collective that goes by Awesome Awesome SHXT (Souls Here eXtending Thanks). Founded by RuAREYOU, we’ve curated an environment that pushes love as it’s message through music and artistic expression.  We invite you to tune in.

I’ve got lots in the works, and I look forward to sharing it with anyone who’s willing to let me in.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road, no.  My mother and my father both gave me their full support growing up, that said they’re both of an older generation and disciplined me accordingly.  They taught me our problems aren’t problems, someone’s always got it better, and importantly someone’s always got it worse.

Growing up a male dancer, it doesn’t really matter who you are, you’re going to get shit regardless. That said, it didn’t really matter much to me, and it wasn’t gonna stop me.  To any of my young dancers/artists out there, I urge you to keep going.

As an artist, I find that no matter what, life always manages to present the best of the best, and the worst of the worst all at the same time, all the time. It’s up to us how we interpret it, and what we choose to dwell on. That, and the “now”, ultimately creates our life before our eyes, or so I like to think.

Please tell us more about your work and what you are most known for.
I’ve been compared most to a swiss army knife, in the sense that I practice everything I do as if it were the only thing I knew how to do.  I am a constant work in progress, a sharpening of my tools, a compilation of everything I have done, am doing, and will do.

I am most known for my craft in the entertainment field,  especially the dance end of the spectrum, as tap dance was my first love.  I’m particularly proud of my versatility and my character.  I can’t guarantee much, but rest assured you won’t find another me anywhere you might look.

Anything you need, you just let me know. If I can’t do it myself, I know a guy.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Someone once told me that there are no coincidences. That really made me stop and think; maybe luck is perspective based, some sorta placebo effect. The more you try to understand it, the less effective it becomes. There is reason for everything, even if it’s a lucky break that’s not clear at the point of contact, or ever for that matter.

That said, I am always sure to count my lucky stars. I do feel fortunate on a day to day basis, for not many are given the chances I have been granted access to, and very few find the tribe they seek out for.  I am grateful to have found mine.
