Today we’d like to introduce you to Ryan Iwamoto.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Ryan. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Prior to starting 24Hr HomeCare, my co-founders and I all worked at a large nationwide home health company. I started out as a recruiter and worked my way up into management and eventually left with my now co-partners to start 24Hr HomeCare in 2008. We started our business with a small investment that was self and family-funded and have been able to grow the company organically into one of the largest private home care companies in the West. Our company now expands across three states California, Arizona and Texas with over 3,000 employees.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Whenever you are a self-funded company, there are always inherent risks. Every time we launched new branch offices, we were literally betting the company and our careers each time. Fortunately, those bets paid off and we now have 13 locations and had the opportunity to hire over 3,000 individuals. We also launched our business in 2008, in the height of the financial downturn. And at the time banks weren’t giving out loans and advisors at the Small Business Association advised us that this business would fail.
Rather than walk away with our heads down, we used those challenges as motivation and to find the opportunity within those obstacles. For example, so many businesses were going out of business during that time and having “Liquidation Sales” on their furniture. I remember purchasing desks for our office space at one of the liquidation sales for $5 a pop. Talent was plentiful during this time too. When we were looking for our first employee, we were able to hire a true all-star. Our first employee is still with us today and is now one of our Vice Presidents.
Please tell us about 24Hr HomeCare.
24Hr HomeCare provides professional caregivers in the home for seniors and children with developmental disabilities. Our Caregivers assist our clients with personal care, medication reminders, meal preparation, homemaking and transportation services.
What really sets us apart is our people, our passion for what we do and our performance for delivering high quality services. Every person that works for our company lives and breathes our motto of “Care and Compete.” Care as in we always care about our Caregivers, Colleagues, Clients and Community. And with Compete, where we are striving to compete with ourselves to get better every single day. Every employee has a nice, balanced mix of both traits in their DNA. They are the two threads that interweave through the fabric of our company culture.
