Today we’d like to introduce you to Ryan Christen.
Hi Ryan, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’m somewhat new to Los Angeles after getting married to my Beverly Hills-native wife here in early 2022 and migrating from Aspen, Colorado, which has been a huge transition but an exciting one. Before I made the short-term decision to become a full-time stay-at-home parent to our young boys, I worked in commercial property management in Beverly Hills, which gave me valuable experience in client relations, project management, and problem-solving. I thoroughly enjoyed the fast-paced environment and learned a lot about managing complex tasks and complex people. While being at home had been a rewarding chapter, I’m now bringing my skills and experience back full force into my own business. With the support of my loving wife who is also a veterinarian, we collaborated on Squat Gang. I am thrilled to offer a unique, no contract pet service that compliments her clients and many others by offering the opportunity for a more sanitary and thus more healthy environment for pets and people. Coupled with a fun So-Cal themed name/image and engaging marketing schemes, we are busier than ever and having so much fun at the same time.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It had been an off and on challenge of patience in the beginning getting licenses and permits, collaborating with marketing and web development professionals, trademarking, and other legal counsel to ensure that everyone is on the same page with the vision of the business and nothing is overlooked. Typical startup challenges! I was so excited about my vision for the business that I couldn’t wait to launch. It’s cliche, but the biggest obstacle is often times in my own head; paralysis by analysis. Sometimes you just have to stop overthinking and go out and make a solid attempt at whatever you’re out to accomplish; you can do so much more than you think. Exposure hasn’t been an issue for Squat Gang due to heavy online marketing; we get tens of thousands of website and social media visits every week, and the overwhelming enthusiasm for the service and the brand has been nothing short of remarkable. We are now looking at expanding, which introduces a whole new set of challenges that we must be prepared to handle. Every day is different and stimulating and it’s easy to get addicted to that, but it can also be challenging to accommodate spontaneous events such as growing schedule changes, logistical and staffing solutions and retention, and even challenging clients. At the end of the day I wouldn’t have it any other way, and that’s reassurance that I made the right decision in starting the business.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Squat Gang?
