Today we’d like to introduce you to Ruslan Karablin.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Ruslan. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Born in Soviet Russia (Odessa Ukraine) in 1969. Migrated to the U.S. in 1975. Created SSUR© brand around 1990 as a way of signing my paintings and fine art. Decided to expand to tees and caps as a form of advertising for the art and the clothing brand was formed and officially inc’d in 1994. Since then we have created globally recognized graphics and have worked with many great brands like Supreme, Undefeated, Stüssy, Converse, Casio and many others throughout our history. Currently, we have shops in LA, Shanghai and Odessa and a strong internet presence.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
There are always obstacles and smooth roads hardly exist. Everything has been growing pains and we have been down for the count several times and we’re lucky enough to recover.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with SSUR© Ravenite – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
We make art and design. My specialty has been appropriating existing logos to take on a new meaning in pop culture. Our mission is to challenge the status quo thru disruptive art, materialized as paintings, sculpture, clothing and other product and installations.
We are most proud that we have our own lane and that our age group is wide(15-50).
What sets us apart from others is that we create the trends, not follow them.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
My plans for the future are more painting and sculpture. More conceptual art. I love the food industry and plan on creating a vegan eatery.
I have always had a great ambition to make a movie about what I’ve seen and heard about my culture and upbringing.
