Meet Rubi Rymenmy, Yolanda, Manuel, Nick, and Enrique Reyes of Cheat Day Land

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rubi Rymenmy, Yolanda, Manuel, Nick, and Enrique Reyes.

CHEAT DAY LAND is an interactive pop-up museum that celebrates the connection between art and food. The concept of the museum comes from people who share a love for food and art and includes unique installations from Los Angeles based artists.

Founder, Rubi Rymenmy was inspired by Japan’s interactive museums to mix immersive art with all of her favorite “Cheat Day” foods. Rubi’s family owns Art Flying Aerial fitness studio, an aerial and circus school. Cheat Day Land is a place where kids can have fun and adults can release their inner child. The first Latinos to create and establish an interactive pop-up museum, the Reyes family has collaboratively created multiple successful businesses’ that have always provided a positive impact within the community.

Fitness-oriented and artistic, the family envisioned themselves as being business owners and through resilience and determination has found ways to accomplish these goals. In 2008 Rubi, with the help of her siblings opened her first yoga studio, Rymenmy Healing Center in Rancho Palos Verdes. In 2012, they opened up Art Flying Yoga that combined aerial arts with yoga, followed by Art Flying Aerial in 2015, a circus and aerial arts studio.

The perseverance of this journey is reflected in their greatest creation of Cheat Day Land, an interactive pop-up museum. In 2017, Rubi traveled to Japan where she experienced her first interactive pop-up museum. Inspired by the creativity and innovation of immersion art, she returned to Los Angeles pondering on the idea of why she couldn’t create her own pop-up museum.

A strongly bonded family of artists and business owners, the empowerment of their life experience drove them to conquer the dream of becoming the first Latinos to open up a pop-up museum. Given their fitness background, the concept of Cheat Day Land was birthed from the infamous “cheat day” in the fitness world. Rubi and her sister Yolanda began to conceptualize the business model, while her three brothers, Manuel, Enrique, and Nick, began designing and creating the concepts for each room of the museum.

Their vision extends out further than the artistic endeavor of the museum, as it also serves as a platform to inspire others facing similar challenges to dream big and work hard to create the world they envision for themselves and others. Rubi, coming from a family oriented background, imagined a space where adults could awaken their inner child in this family-oriented environment.

Has it been a smooth road?
Starting a pop-up museum has not been easy, but it’s been worth it. Designing the concept was incredibly fun, but then when it came to engineering and manufacturing, we ran into serious problems when the factory that creates the plastics in the midwest had a fire.

Our project was put on hold while we found new production sources. Learning how to market a concept that is in each location for a limited time was also challenging. Trial and error have been our greatest teacher, especially when it comes to learning how to market our brand and get people to come in.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Cheat Day Land, LLC. – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
We specialize in the pop-up industry, creating an interactive and artistic experience for our customers to photograph, create, and share happy memories across social media platforms.

Our design team has created a unique installation that truly sets us apart from other pop-ups as we have authentically created the art from scratch and made our rooms larger for a greater experience.

We are proud of how our brand has come to life from a simple vision and how we have pushed through despite the challenges. As we see it grow and transition into its second location, we feel a gratifying sensation.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and the least?
We loved being in LA because this is our city and we had immense support. We aren’t sure what to expect from Orange County as this will be a new area from us, but so far the Irvine Spectrum, which is our new home location, has been supportive in our transition.
