Today we’d like to introduce you to Rotem Fhima.
Hi Rotem, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started Orange Tulip Studio in 2012 with a belief that has guided us ever since: design is not just about how things look, but how they feel and connect with people. From day one, our motto has been “Some call it graphic design. We call it love.” This work is in our DNA. We do what we love, and we create memorable brands that stand out.
The name Orange Tulip comes from my favorite flower. I have always loved the clean, timeless aesthetics of tulips, and the vibrant mix of orange and green feels bold, fresh, and alive. To me, that sums up our philosophy: we are suckers for minimal aesthetics, but we make sure they stand out and leave an impression.
In the early days, it was just me, a laptop, and a lot of late nights, but also a lot of joy. My very first client is still with me today, which I think says everything about how we work. We focus on long-term relationships, not quick one-and-done projects. Over the years, clients have kept coming back because they can feel that we care deeply about their story, their brand, and the people they serve.
As we grew, so did our slogan. We started playing with it: “Some call it branding. We call it love.” Or “Some call it web design. We call it love.” The truth is, everything we do, we do with love.
Los Angeles has also been an incredible backdrop for our journey. The city’s diversity, energy, and constant reinvention have shaped my approach to creativity and design.
Today, more than a decade later, our hearts remain unchanged. We do not aim to be the fastest or the cheapest. We aim to be the one our clients love, trust, and keep coming back to. That philosophy, and that love, continue to guide everything we do.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has definitely not been smooth, and honestly, I would not want it to be. The challenges are what shaped Orange Tulip Studio into what it is today.
One of the biggest struggles early on was explaining the value of good design. Many people wanted something fast and cheap, but we knew that was not us. We had to stand firm in our philosophy that we do not just make things look nice, we build brands that last. Saying “no” to projects that did not align with that took courage, especially in the beginning, but it allowed us to grow in the right direction.
Another challenge has been the natural ups and downs of running a creative business. Balancing creativity with the practical side of running a studio is not always easy. There were moments when it felt risky, but those moments also taught us resilience and focus.
The reward is that, over time, the right clients found us and stayed with us. Many of them are repeat clients, some for over a decade, because they know we care deeply about their brand. That makes every challenge worth it.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
At Orange Tulip Studio, our work is all about crafting brands that feel timeless, memorable, and alive. What sets us apart is our unmistakable attention to detail. Every pixel, every color, every curve matters because small details add up to a brand that truly resonates.
We also believe that achieving simplicity is the most complicated challenge. Stripping away the unnecessary until only the essential remains is what makes a brand strong, clear, and unforgettable. Our designs may look effortless, but the effort behind them is anything but.
Beyond our attention to detail, we also strongly believe that even if someone is not a designer, the human brain has the innate ability to recognize and respond to aesthetics. People may not always know why something feels “right,” but their brain does. We are constantly guided by this truth. The human brain fascinates us – how it perceives, how it remembers, and how design can influence those processes. That curiosity drives us to keep learning, experimenting, and improving, so our work resonates on a deeper, almost subconscious level.
Another aspect of our work that we are deeply proud of is serving as the “digital hand” for some of Los Angeles’ most notable artists. While we keep that work behind the curtain, it is incredibly rewarding to bring their visions to life with the same care and dedication we bring to every client.
What I am most proud of is the trust our clients place in us. Many of them return year after year because they know we do not just design for them, we design with them. We are collaborators, creative partners, and above all, storytellers who happen to use the language of design.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
First and foremost, I owe so much to my wife, Yafit. She has stood with me, beside me, beyond me, and anywhere else needed to make Orange Tulip Studio what it is today. Her support, encouragement, and belief in me have been the foundation that allows me to do what I love.
I also have a mentor, though not in the traditional sense: Steve Jobs. His philosophy on design, especially the idea that simplicity is the ultimate sophistication, has been a guiding light for me. He showed the world that minimal design is not easy to achieve, but when you get it right, it is incredibly powerful. That perspective continues to inspire how I approach every project.
Of course, I am grateful to every client who has trusted us with their story. Their confidence and collaboration are what keep us going and what make this work so rewarding.
