Today we’d like to introduce you to Rosita.
Hi Rosita, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I grew up in the Los Angeles area, mostly the Hyde Park neighborhood and Inglewood. My career in entertainment began as a teen. I developed a strong interest in music after joining my high school band. After responding to an ad in a newspaper, I got my first gig with Nickelodeon. That changed everything for me. My mother and I ended up relocating back to the South Mississippi area, where most of her family was from. There I graduated from The University of Southern Mississippi’s Music Industry program. I ended up working in New Orlean’s film industry, doing everything from prosecution work to acting. Acting has always been a love of mine, but music has always been my passion. I ended up reconnecting with people that I met in college, and I have put out a few singles. I am working on my first EP at the moment.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My journey has been far from easy. I have faced everything from homelessness to being in unfulfilling relationships. I use those struggles, and what I have learned from them, in my art.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am an entertainer. If we get specific, I am a rapper and an actress. One of my biggest accomplishments is having a role in “Synchronic” opposite Anthony Mackie. I learned so much from working with him on that project. My song, “Jody” along with P.U.R.P. and Akeem Ali has over 300,000 views on YouTube. I have a natural quirkiness about myself that I have grown to love and accept over the years. I also have a single out called “Fanned Out,” which is a tale of a crazed fan determined to meet her crush, overcoming any and all obstacles along the way.
How do you think about happiness?
Being able to create makes me happy. Having peace makes me happy. Being around people who truly love me and have my best interest at heart makes me happy. Having those three things makes me happy, because having all three is rare.
