Meet Roie Edery of Bistro Planet in Woodland Hills

Today we’d like to introduce you to Roie Edery.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Roie. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Bistro Planet was co-founded by me and Aleksey Klempner. We previously worked together to create the technology solution behind the cannabis software company Eaze. The food truck industry was an attractive “next” market for us because street food is extremely popular in California, yet it’s still very fragmented and we saw an opportunity for a technology approach that would address some of the serious supply/demand challenges. We spent a lot of time with long term players in the industry and worked to create a technology solution that would provide the food truck industry the convenience of on-demand order fulfillment with reasonable fees, and ultimately food that’s hot and in your hands right after it’s made.

Has it been a smooth road?
We launched the beta version of our app in January of this year, and our official launch was in June. From beta launch until now, we have learned a lot about the food truck industry as a whole and there have been several more key challenges than we originally predicted. One of the most critical things we learned is that the industry needs more than just an app to locate and track food trucks. Food truck owners expressed to us their frustrations in other areas of their business, such as how burdensome it is to manually access profitable vending locations and events and how hard some of the city regulations are on small businesses. Foodies shared with us that they wanted to be able to order and pay for the food from the convenience of their phone. We have taken the feedback from both food truck owners as well as customers and created a customized technology solution for the industry that, at the end of the day we think will accelerate small business growth in the trucks, elevate the consumer experience, and solve some of the problems cities struggle with in mobile food vending.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
The Bistro Planet app connects users to nearby food trucks in real time, shows the truck’s menu and prices, and allows the user to order and pre-pay for quick pick up. Food truck owners use the app to streamline multiple business operations including online lot booking, menu management, and Point of Sale functions built specifically for food trucks. We launched earlier this year and already have over 250 food trucks on our platform, and 10,000+ users. The feedback has confirmed that the right technology could take this industry to new levels. What sets us apart is that we are experienced technologists with on-demand experience and we have created a customized solution just for food trucks. We are most proud of how we are helping to transform the businesses for the food truck owners. Owning and operating a food truck business is very difficult, especially in an area such as LA and many quickly fail. Our technology allows the owners to run much more efficient and profitable businesses. and It’s great to be a part of what makes these small local businesses succeed.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
LA is the birthplace of food trucks which is why we picked it as the first city launch Bistro Planet.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I have a passion for using my expertise in disruptive technologies to challenge the current way of doing things and to move industries in a new direction. We were able to do this with cannabis and now with the food truck industry. Because of that, I define success as when you are a change agent, and that’s what I am seeking to do one industry at a time!

Pricing:

  • Users pay a .99 cent convenience fee when they place an order through our app. This is 60-80% cheaper then other on-demand delivery apps.
