Meet Roger and Kimberly Lino of RC Piano Lessons in Rancho Cucamonga

Today we’d like to introduce you to Roger and Kimberly Lino.

Roger and Kimberly, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Roger: We both met Spring semester in Mr. Mamey’s Musicianship class while studying music at Citrus College. I would be traveling in bands all over the US every weekend and would sometimes sleep in my car in the school parking lot on Sunday nights in order to make it to our Monday 8am class.

Kimberly: I actually didn’t find this out until 8 months later because I would be the 2nd car in the parking lot to get a practice room to sing an hour before class started. All that time I thought he was stalking me! Ha.

Roger: Well, fast forward to 13 years later we didn’t know from that 1st day of class we would eventually get married and own several businesses together.

Kimberly: Roger had been teaching piano lessons part-time, while also working for other music studios, and still actively performing every weekend. I was performing and also had been studying the business behind music, social media and the online world because I knew that’s where the future was going. I ended up working from home opening an online business that did very well.

Roger: Both of us were working up to 16 hours a day and had areas we just didn’t feel passionate about and couldn’t see ourselves doing it for the long run. So we made a hard decision to close her successful online business and she put everything she’d learned into promoting my teaching while I quit working for other people and studios so I could refine my own music teaching program.

Kimberly: We wanted to be our own boss, and allocate our time as we wished. In less than 6 months of everything coming together, we now have a waiting list of students. It was mind blowing to us that once we took the risk and invested the time and money in building ourselves how everything we had ever learned fell into place in our favor. So this is just to beginning of what is to come because we want to share it on a much BIGGER spectrum. Roger has always had a dream of building a music school in El Salvador for kids that don’t have the resources we do here in the US.

Roger: So that’s one of the reasons we’re so driven to grow.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Kimberly: Oh man, if anyone says it’s a smooth road they’re lying for sure. From sleepless nights and 4:40am wake up times to meet deadlines it has been a labor of love.

Roger: It’s been over 15 years of hundreds and hundreds of hours of learning and growing to accumulate what we’ve applied in our business. Honestly, it comes down to learning the phycology of people and how they learn best.

Kimberly: On the business side of things learning how to put together an effective website for our core community, to experimenting with all kinds of marketing, music program ideas and branding. Every component is important. It’s like putting together a perfect chicken soup. Every specific measurement of spice, vegetables, broth, moistness of chicken all the way down to the bowl and spoon you serve it in has made a difference.

Roger: We are learning every day because technology is evolving at lighting speeds. We both make sure to incorporate the advantages of technology within all parts of the business.

Kimberly: It helps we really enjoy learning, but we continue our journey with all the bumps and bends and want to help others find their way as well.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the RC Piano Lessons story. Tell us more about the business.
Roger: RC Piano Lessons offers private custom piano lessons that are affordable and taught in the comfort of your own home.

Kimberly: We currently service Rancho Cucamonga and the surrounding areas as well as Skype lessons virtually anywhere around the world. Our specialties range in teaching how to read music for any level by following our program so the student can keep that skill for the rest of their lives and not just as a temporary skill set.

Roger: In our experience, we found that music reading and theory isn’t a priority at other studios and certainly not on YouTube to learn piano. We are well aware that it’s not magic because it does take commitment of both the parents and the student when it comes to reading. Like anything else, it doesn’t just happen but we’ve put together a simple system that definitely accelerates the process in many ways. We always encourage that if you follow the program and practice daily the consistency will give back tenfold.

Kimberly: We believe taking piano lessons, or any musical instrument in that matter should be required for everyone. It is the only activity that activates the entire brain all at the same time. Research has also proven that the most successful influencers in our time have studied piano at some point. It’s an awesome brain workout!

We also take pride in creating an experience of a supportive family that makes everyone feel their growth and confidence is a top priority.

Roger: Which it definitely is.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Kimberly: We believe that luck is when preparation meets opportunity.

Roger: And we let God lead the way.
