Today we’d like to introduce you to Robia Scott.
Robia, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
As soon as I could walk, I was dancing. Like many little girls, I performed primarily for my family in the living room until “she” swooped in and change my life forever. As a teen, I saw the movie “Flashdance,” and for the first time realized that I could turn dance into a career. The “she” who I am referring to altered my entire life and look.
I have Jennifer Beals to thank for the perm I got the day after seeing the movie. Oh yes, I got a big ole’ PERM, cut up all my sweatshirts and wore leg warmers with every outfit. Hello 80’s! At the age of 16, I became a professional and began dancing in numerous music videos as MTV was just becoming the rage. In my early twenties, I was hired by Prince as “Pearl” for his critically acclaimed album, Diamonds, and Pearls.
After appearing on the album’s cover, all the videos, and touring the world with Prince, dancing in front of audiences of 60,0000 people at a time, I felt like I had reached the pinnacle of my career as a dancer. I retired from dance at 22 years old to try my hand at acting. It wasn’t long until I began booking films and television shows culminating in a three-year role on the cult classic, Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
During this time, my life radically shifted. I had achieved most of my dreams in my early twenties, but something wasn’t right. I was traveling the world and making plenty of money, but I was struggling. The pressure from the industry to portray physical perfection was taking its toll. I was obsessed with my weight and wrestling with eating disorders. I was chain smoking, anxious, and just not happy.
What was going on inside of me was vastly different than the confident image I portrayed on screen. I was desperate for freedom. Thus began my search for truth, God, and the definition of real success.
As the saying goes, “your mess becomes your message,” and that’s exactly how it played out for me. I discovered unique tools, some spiritual, some not, that led to an incredible process of inner healing and transformation. As I found freedom, a newfound passion emerged to share what I had learned with others.
For the last 20 years, I have I worked with individuals through personal coaching and mentorship and traveled the globe as a Christian motivational speaker and teacher. My focus is on life-changing tools that transform lives, believing that our outer experience is a reflection of our inner reality.
My book, Counterfeit Comforts, Freedom from the Imposters that Keep You from True Peace, Purpose, and Passion, has impacted the lives of thousands.
Has it been a smooth road?
Did I have challenges? Yeah, just a few… hundred! My greatest challenge was the interim season of transitioning careers. I walked away from a thriving career in acting and took a leap of faith into the unknown.
Transition is rough, always. Letting go of what’s familiar to follow your passion ain’t easy. Every artist and entrepreneur knows the pain! But I’m not scared of struggles. Obstacles are a part of the plan.
My motto is, “change is scary, but the pain of not changing is scarier.” I just had to walk it out, struggle financially for a while, and hold on until my new career path began to take shape.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
Through personal mentorship and coaching from a Christian perspective, I specialize in getting women unstuck. I offer “HOW TO” tools for transformation. These simple, practical, applicable tools promote true success in every area of life.
Financial success is fantastic, but to be thriving at work and suffering mentally and emotionally is not success. My passion is in empowering women, through biblical principles, to overcome obstacles such as fear, anxiety, and depression, so that they can connect with their unique gifting and release what is within them into the world.
And most importantly, to have a whole lot of FUN while doing it!
