Today we’d like to introduce you to Robert Parker Jr.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Robert. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started playing guitar nearly seven years ago, and I haven’t been able to put it down since. Raised by music junkies, I grew an appreciation for the blues and classic rock at a very young age. My playing style, or “pot of gumbo” as us guitarist like to call it, bridges the gap between blues, rock, and jam-bands alike.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Growing up in a split home shaped my life at a fairly young age but never kept me from finding ways to express myself. Being on the go as a kid, touring on the road became second-nature. Things like insecurities and depression occasionally get in the way, but these things are only temporary obstacles that can be overcome.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I play and sing the blues the best I can, just to “exercise my demons,” as they say. I’m known for being a solo artist, but feel the most comfortable in my own skin in full-band settings so I don’t have to worry about all eyes being on me. I rely on the energy and input from my bandmates in order to really let loose and emote in the manner that I feel is sufficient enough to be proud of.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
What I feel is most important to hold on to in order to succeed is remaining humble. I always feel like my performances can only get better from show to show, and prefer to surround myself with musicians better than myself so I can always keep learning.
