Meet Robert Hamilton of No Limit Kiteboarding in Belmont Shores/Long Beach

Today we’d like to introduce you to Robert Hamilton.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
When I moved from Sacramento to Los Angeles over 10 years ago to pursue a career as a professional poker player, I wanted to find a job with a flexible schedule to work on my other interests and help provide stability. That’s where I met the owner of a local kiteboarding shop, where I worked for 5 years until the shop eventually closed down. Since I had all those years of experience and had made so many connections in the industry I decided to open up my own business and school over 3 years ago. With the support of the local community and the great word of mouth we have received, we have grown each year and are expecting another great season.

Has it been a smooth road?
With our connections with the major kiteboarding brands (North, Cabrinha, Liquid Force, Naish, Nobile, Slingshot, Mystic, Dakine, Ozone, etc.), it was an easy for us to get accounts despite starting as a small company; normally these brands would ask companies to start with minimum orders and meet certain requirements. That was a huge advantage for us to get our business off the ground. The toughest challenge was getting the permit to teach kiteboarding lessons in Long Beach. It was a very competitive process that took over 2 years, but with our experience and professionalism, we were granted a permit to teach in Long Beach under our school name Off the Hook Kiteboarding.

No Limit Kiteboarding specializes in kiteboarding lessons and gear. We are known for excellent customer service and our experienced and friendly instructors. We are very proud to have the support of the Belmont Kite Friends Crew and all the local team riders. Plus we ship kiteboarding gear across the globe.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Belmont Shores is a great place for our business. It’s a major tourist attraction so we get to meet people from all over the world. We have side-onshore winds which are ideal for teaching and a break wall to keep the waves at a minimum. If someone is starting out and needs lessons, Belmont Shores is a great place to learn.
