Meet Robbie Page of Tenzo Tea in Santa Monica

Today we’d like to introduce you to Robbie Page.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’ve spent the majority of my life as an athlete. Training my mind, body and soul to be my best and perform on the court when it mattered most. Volleyball blessed me with a full scholarship to UCLA and an amazing three years playing professionally, traveling the world.

But I’m a big believer in my gut – the ability recognizes a good opportunitea when it strikes you in the face and furthermore – the courage to take action when nobody else seems to understand. When Steve O’Dell moved onto my couch in the spring of 2016, we immediately realized our calling to make a great positive impact on the world that was bigger than ourselves. He dropped out of UCLA with one semester left, I dropped out of professional athletics. We set off on a mission to pursue something that didn’t exist.

We were searching for a healthier form of energy to replace the coffee & energy drinks that would keep us at our best during long days of study and physical activity. We discovered an ancient Japanese green tea called matcha but couldn’t find any qualitea product in the U.S. at a reasonable price. Seeing the opportunitea in the market and the positive impact we could make on the world, we made it our mission to share the healthiest energy on the planet with the self-optimizers and healthy lifestyles of the world. Tenzo Tea was born.

Has it been a smooth road?
I think about building a business like being the first person to ever climb Mount Everest. The mountain is massive. You can’t see the top. The weather is in constant fluctuation – from sunshine to a deathly storm. It’s up to you to lead the way and earn the trust of your team while everyone’s life is on the line. Building a business is not a smooth road.

When we first started Tenzo Tea, no one on the team had any experience in business, digital marketing, finance, importing product from overseas, or generally how to build an everlasting brand. From day one, we put our egos aside and committed ourselves to learning. We read every book we can get our hands on. We constantly seek feedback and advice. This has been one of biggest struggles and most gratifying parts of starting Tenzo Tea.
