Meet Rob Snow

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rob Snow.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Rob. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I was raised by a single mother in poverty in a small cotton mill town of 430 people called Hamilton, MS. My nearest neighbor was a mile away and music was the only thing that made me feel like I wasn’t alone. It made me feel like I could conquer the world. Music was the only thing I held onto throughout the ups and downs of childhood. My mother bought my siblings and I a little $50 pawn shop drum set for Christmas one year and at that point, I honestly didn’t think much of playing drums, I really wanted to play guitar. My brother got really good at drums and then bought his own guitar with the money he got from his first job and got really good at guitar as well. He wanted me to learn drums so we could jam together. So, I started learning some rock songs like AC/DC’s “Back In Black” and Metallica’s “Enter Sandman” and I immediately fell in love with the drums.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Absolutely not. Growing up in such a small town, musicians aren’t as easy to come by like they are in LA. My brother and I started a band and had such a hard time finding people to play with. On top of the fact he was in college in Tuscaloosa, AL and I was in high school in Sulligent, AL. I would have to drive 3 hours to write, practice, do promo, or anything with this project. We had the project for months before we found people to play with. When we formed the band, shows and venues were also another major roadblocks. There’s not as many venues or evens bands to begin within small towns like that, so we would have to drive hours to play a show of any kind.

I remember my senior year in high school, my band and I would play shows every weekend all over the southeast. Friday – get off of school and drive to Georgia, play a show, and sleep on someone’s floor that night. Saturday – wake up and drive to Tennessee, play a show, and sleep on someone else’s floor. Sunday – Drive back to Alabama to play a show and then drive home that night so I could be back to school on Monday. It hasn’t been a smooth road, but I don’t regret any of it. Every bit of that was a lesson learned or an amazing memory made. Memories that I’ll have the rest of my life.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I am a professional drummer. There is a lot of things that go into that title, but mostly consists of being a studio session drummer, a hired touring drummer, and I also make YouTube videos full time as well. I’m most proud of being able to finally start my own YouTube channel. It’s something I’ve wanted to do since I was in High School but have never had the gear or the know-how to even being. I went to college and got an Associate’s Degree in Audio Engineering, and also took video editing courses in college, so I’m 100% self-produced and self-made when it comes to the videos and audio that I have on my channel.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Being in Los Angeles, luck is just in itself just BEING here. I wake up everyday and know that at any time or in some way, I could meet someone just in passing or from a friend of a friend that could change my career. It’s happened so much for me since I got here in 2016. It wasn’t till 2018 that I decided I wanted to play drums for a living and since then, it’s been a crazy road of people that I’ve met or got contact info for that have helped with my career or given me advice that’s paid off. But to be on the other side of that spectrum, I have also met a lot of people that have given me bad advice or linked me with people that are no good in the industry I’m currently in. But, one of the luckiest instances I’ve had has met a fellow drummer (Not going to name drop) and he got me contact info for a company I have been trying to work with for almost seven years. I am proud to say I am an SJC Custom Drums artist! You live and you learn!
