Meet Rising Star : Brandon Marcel

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandon Marcel.

Hi Brandon, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I first started acting in elementary school. My first play was in Kindergarten. Since then, I took drama in Middle and high school. I attended Hamilton High Performing Arts school. Acting started out as a hobby and once I got older, I realized it was something I wanted to. I started taking acting classes and booking roles on shows here and there and commercials, and now here I am recurring on season 2 of saved by the bell reboot season 1 and 2. I previously appeared on shows such as Comedy Bang Bang, Jimmy Kimmel Live, American gangster trap queens.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
So I have two answers for this. It has definitely not been a smooth road. Being born with Sickle Cell Anemia, I was always sick as a child so it would’ve been hard for me to pursue my dreams as a child by auditioning or being on set late and in cold weather. That was one struggle. Luckily I had a bone marrow transplant which cured me from the illness. The second struggle is this industry is filled with constant rejection. Sometimes you will audition for a part and not hear back. Sometimes you will audition and get a callback and still not book. Sometimes you will audition and get put on avail (pretty much meaning you are a top candidate, usually 3) and still don’t book but you keep going!

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am an actor here in Los Angeles. I was just bumped up to recurring on the Saved by the bell reboot on NBC Peacock. I appeared in the season 1 finale with just two lines! two lines! and now I’m back for more. I mention the two lines because most actors don’t want to audition for co-star roles because those roles tend to have the least dialogue but if you go in and do your best no matter what size of the role and make an impact, you will be remembered. Fun fact, I initially auditioned for another role on the show and didn’t book it and was requested to audition for Greg and got it. I am most proud of getting to this point (being a recurring player) on a tv show. Most of my work have been one episode and that’s it so to be asked to come back is amazing. Once you get a recurring on your resume, it opens doors for bigger auditions. What sets me apart from the others is my perseverance and resilience. I know people who quit the industry and I’m still here despite having a dry spell, not booking, and getting dropped by previous representation. I also have a voice over project coming out soon titled “Rise of the Nation” created by Rhythm Nation and A goof troop movie choreographer Anthony Thomas.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
To keep going. To keep training. To never stop learning. Try different techniques and classes and see what works best for you. and most important, believe in yourself.
