Today we’d like to introduce you to Richard Podgurski Jr.
Richard, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started to get into photography while having a ton of free time during the later years of my two decades long DJ career. Growing up in the South Bay, you’re surrounded by so much beach and surf culture, it’s hard not to take pictures around here. Every season can bring so much unique weather and events.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I’d say the struggles mostly existed within my DJ career, that ended up letting me ease into the photography profession without any ulterior motives. Being published nationally and locally really became the fire that drove me into it deeper than I ever imagined.
Please tell us about RP-Photography.
I’d have to say my aerial beach shots have been the most popular trademark. I’ve also been involved in the surf and entertainment world, so those specific bubbles have yielded some really special moments to capture. Big wave surfing pics are fun to chase while doing on stage photography is a really fun challenge. But when I’m doing it on my free time, I always find a beautiful coastline to capture. Usually in the South Bay, but going to collage in Hawaii fused a special connection with the island that I always love to revisit. Clear blue water and sand is always nice my favorite subject.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I’ve learned A LOT… You always should make the best possible decisions you can in the moment you’re in them. Doing your best is the only aspect you can control in any situation or business decision along the way.
