Today we’d like to introduce you to Richard Herb.
Richard, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My original working life began as a teacher at the secondary school level. While I have a strong passion for teaching it, unfortunately, did not provide an income that would support the kind of lifestyle I desired. So I transitioned into the real estate field by working as a sales manager for a major Southern California developer. While in that position, part of my responsibilities included overseeing the Model Homes.
It awakened in me the strong desire for the interior design profession. I felt compelled to become an interior designer and found myself working as an assistant to two very talented and successful interior designers in Los Angeles. After a few years and due to my maturity in business I felt I was ready to move on by opening my own interior design firm. It was the best decision I have ever made.
Fortunately, we have been successfully completing both residential and commercial design projects both in Southern California and throughout the United States.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Nothing is perfect, but we have always been busy even during the more challenging economic times.
The struggles were the challenges of the interior design profession. Finding and retaining the best resources has always been an ongoing challenge. Nothing major has been an obstacle. Dedication and commitment coupled with my PASSION for interior design has always carried us through any tough times.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Richard W. Herb and Associates – what should we know?
We are a full-service interior design firm. While we are capable of “decorating” we are best at being involved in full or partial re-models, as well as, from the ground up projects. We become involved with the architecture at the very detailed level. We also don’t limit ourselves to anyone “look” or style. We are most known for our dedication and LISTENING to a client’s needs and wants, operating with a very strong business sense to make it happen.
I have spent time teaching interior design subjects on the college level. As such I have taught some very talented new designers and have started a mentoring program for many of them in order to assist them in launching their careers. The mentoring is very hands-on by finding and completing projects together. The combination of my experience and their enthusiasm and passion keeps us in demand.
What role has luck (good luck or bad luck) played in your life and business?
My belief is to take full of every situation that is encountered in life and in business whether it is positive or negative. I cannot honestly say that I have had any good or bad luck affect my business.
