Meet Ria Taylor of Ria Georgia Photography in Costa Mesa

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ria Taylor.

Ria, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
It all started when I moved to California about five years ago. I was driving with my Mom on the five for the first time, and we were hit from behind causing us to spin and hit the barrier. My car was totaled and thankfully we were both okay. From the accident settlement, I decided to invest in something I had always dreamed of owning but never could – a DSLR camera. I bought the best one I could afford, along with all the bells and whistles like lenses and software. Throughout college, I would ask friends to model for me and I spent my nights on Youtube learning as much about photography and composition as I could. I knew right away that this was my calling, photographing people and their lives fascinated me. I would photograph anything and everyone, until I decided one day to focus myself on the one thing that I found myself drawn to — love. Today, after many long hours and nights, I specialize in weddings, couples, and elopements.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I was in college as I built up my business, juggling classes and other jobs along with free photoshoots in the beginning. As I began to charge for sessions, I had to dedicate even more time and energy into serving my clients and It was really difficult finding a balance. Now, I work full time as a digital marketer in the Travel industry from 9-5, and in my spare time and weekends, I photograph weddings and engagements. It’s a sacrifice to my personal life at times, but I do it because I feel like I’m serving my true purpose and calling.

Ria Georgia Photography – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I am an adventure photographer. I pride myself in capturing couples for who they are, and not what poses I put them in. My style of photography is warm and playful. I always post and share pictures that make me feel something, and not just because they fit my feed or fit the current trend. I truly enjoy getting to know my couples and making them feel comfortable enough to show me their unique love.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
I still think it’s so unreal when some of the photographers I idolized, in the beginning, share my work or message me. I remember when Anni Graham (my biggest inspiration) shared my post for the first time, I think I almost fainted. It’s just crazy that I tried for so long to break into the wedding industry and I emailed so many people to try and learn from, and now people are looking up to me in the same way.
