Meet Rhona Brown Walker of Hair Experience Salon by Rhona in Compton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rhona Brown Walker.

Rhona, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. I am the youngest of 5 and the only girl. I grew up in a house with all men after my mother passed away when I was a teenager. My mother always told me to follow my dreams and that’s where the journey started!

I taught myself to braid at 9 years old and by 10 I had a clientele of doctors, lawyers, police officers, teachers, you name it! When people were referred to me, no one could believe that it was a child doing hair. Back in the day, my price was only $10. I’ve always had a passion for doing hair and I decided once I got into high school I would attend cosmetology school to become a licensed professional.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
As a business owner, there are a lot of obstacles and challenges. My main challenge is finding the right team to see your vision. Right now, I have a good team but I’m also looking to expand.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
At the Hair Experience we pride ourselves in providing excellent customer service every time you walk through the door. We would like each customer to feel welcomed and comfortable during their hair service. Each visit is an experience at the Hair Experience! Coffee, tea and fresh pastries are offered every visit.

I specialize in thermal texturizing and healthy hair care. I also do braids and hair extensions. A “weave-ologist” is what they call me.

What were you like growing up?
I’ve always been a happy child, a people person and sometimes a comedian. I was head strong and knew at an early age what I wanted in life. I’ve always been a crafty person and could teach myself to do anything.

Pricing:

  • Thermal Texturize (Press N Curl)- $65.00 & up
  • Full Head Extensions- $250 & up
  • Individual Braids- $200 & up
  • Cornrows- $85 & up
  • Custom Color- $60 & up
  • Hair Cut- $40 & up

Wow! That’s an awesome story on how it all came to be, I’ve known Rhona for quite some time & she has always been one of my best hair stylist, jewelry maker, baker & can cook, right on down to knitting scarf sets. I’m so proud to say I’m a friend whose watch this Lady chase her dream & to see things manifest into full filtration only because she never gave up. Congrats my friend!🎈
