Meet Rex Mize and Minh Nguyen of Rex Talent Management

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rex Mize and Minh Nguyen.

Rex and Minh, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
At first, I started as singer with a band and even toured and performed on MTV and then I took a break from music. So, while at home my daughter Diamanta was little and pointed to the TV and said “How do I get to play in the box?” at first, I didn’t understand what she meant until she kept pointing at the TV and that’s when I figured it out. So, we started getting her a manager and agent then took her to auditions. Upon meeting a father and his son on set, Mark Miranda the father asked me to manage his son Brenden Miranda, I said well I never done it before but he kept on asking so finally I started to help his son with advice. Not too long after the father started recommending other parents and their kids. So, I started on managing kids.

Along the way I met Minh Nguyen who was directing an independent film titled Lyla Wolf that had cast Brenden. Both Minh and myself connected very well on a professional level and so I decided to represent Minh as a director, eventually he became my business managing partner and co-owner of our company Rex Talent Management. So, we started building in 2011 and through a lot of hard work and long hours our company has reached a level of recognition in the entertainment community. Casting directors, producers and directors just love working with our talent. We also partnered up with Dan Frisch founder of Production Inc. and he designated both Minh and myself as Executive Producers for the company in 2015. So here we are with very exciting projects in development in the horizon.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It wasn’t always smooth, in fact in the beginning it was a learning process along the way. We learned to reshape and form our business to make it better each day. Earlier upon inception we just selected talent openly and figured out that our best way of scouting talent was actually through industry referrals because we would put a lot of emphasis on those making referrals. At least someone was vouching for the talent they referred, nonetheless we have very high standards in our screening process. On a humble note, we are always learning and trying to improve to make our management company the best it can be as well as the best producers in the industry.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Rex Talent Management story. Tell us more about the business.
Well, here at Rex Talent Management we primarily manage actors, we also manage artists, Minh our director and a screenwriter. We are proud of the fact that we have grown, groomed and promoted our talent to a level to where they are working on major television shows, feature films and commercials, and casting directors, producers as well as directors are very happy with the talent/clients that have been cast on their projects. Other than also being producers where we are very supportive of our talent to the point that we will always push to get our clients that we manage to be put in consideration of casting first and foremost, what sets us apart is that we are keeping the roster of clients small so that we are able to put quality time both professional and personally in the talent we represent as a whole. We never see our clients as a number, we put in a sincere effort to know our talent and to communicate and collaborate with them as much as possible to see results.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Whether it’s luck, destiny and or simply just a lot of leg work, all the ups and downs have provided us the experience to ultimately learn and always improve and strive to do our best for our clients as well as making a mark in the industry as entertainment professionals.
