Today we’d like to introduce you to Renee Cohen.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I am a New York native and lifelong sports fan, I graduated from the University of Florida with a bachelor’s degree in business administration and pursued a career at FOX Sports after moving to Los Angeles. I spent the next nine years working my way up through the ranks where I helped to manage the Pac-10 Conference sponsorship rights and launch the Big Ten Network. While a fast-paced work environment and passion for sports kept my motivation strong, wage disparity obstacles left me feeling frustrated and at the mercy of my financial circumstances.
I knew I was a powerful, smart woman but I need the financial guidance and help on how to be smarter with my money. I found so much power and freedom from what I discovered with the right support that I realized my calling was to share learnings, strategies and resources to inspire, support and help the next generation of women to financially thrive.
Has it been a smooth road?
It absolutely hasn’t been a smooth road. Journeys aren’t linear, and we do a disservice to others pretending otherwise. You can plan for a certain future—and end up in a totally different place.
A few years (10 to be exact) into my sports career, I started to feel disconnected and purpose-less. I was confused because I dreamt of being in the sports industry since I was 9 years old. I thought I was feeling that way because I felt I was no longer growing at FOX and needed to move onto another company. The move was an absolute disaster because I quickly realized everything about it was not a good fit. I knew then I wanted to follow my heart in pursuing a path that allowed me to be catalyst for change in people’s lives rather than being beholden to my circumstances. Today I feel completely fulfilled helping people step into their power that will change their financial future. That said, running a business is a rollercoaster, and I experience challenges every day. Although I always felt confident, my underlying fears of being worthy enough overwhelmed me as I started my business. I work on my mindset every day. When we approach life from the mindset that we can improve and get better rather than our abilities are fixed, it’s a lot easier to overcome challenges.
We’d love to hear more about what you do.
My mission is to help end inequality through financial well-being. I advise people on comprehensive financial strategies – savings, investment & risk management, and retirement planning – so they can make empowered decisions & have peace of mind that they have a roadmap to achieve their goals. I am a true believer in the collaborative method, equipping people with the right tools to dream courageously and align their intentions with what brings them meaning, fulfillment and success. I act as a sounding board, champion, mentor, and educator through each step of the financial plan – a plan designed to carry clients throughout their entire financial journey.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
It’s now easier than ever for investors to access their accounts and see how their portfolios, how the markets are performing. The future will likely make digital portals as commonplace as cell phones are today, enabling clients and advisors to effectively communicate and efficiently plan for the future.
