René, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Opening a blow dry and makeup bar has always been a dream of mine. I first noticed the concept about 15 years ago while visiting The Top Shop Department Store in London, England. I ventured into what I thought was a salon only to discover they only did blowouts and styling.
Being someone who despises washing and blow drying my own hair, I was immediately on board with this idea! In 2017 I finally made my dream come to fruition. My idea was to combine my love of good music, great libations, and making people feel like their best selves – this is a place where people can come and just want to hang out. It’s that fun to be here! The Blow Down is more than a hair salon, more than the local watering hole: more than a night out with your close girlfriends. We want everyone to leave here wanting to come back and be a part of this fun family!
Our Philosophy: Getting ready for the party should be PART of the party! Not to mention bottomless champagne, wine and beer.
Has it been a smooth road?
As with any business, there is never a smooth road. The day before I began my journey and started the build-out process for The Blow Down my husband and I found out we were pregnant. After a day of wondering how I would juggle everything I decided to jump in feet first and the next day, I began the build out journey. Six months later we had the grand opening and The Blow Down was born!
So, as you know, we’re impressed with The Blow Down – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
The Blow Down is the ultimate salon experience. Not only do we achieve true hair and makeup artistry from our world-class stylists, The Blow Down is also the place to let down your curls, have a drink, and get ready for your night on the town. Come with a friend! Or a group of friends. Let’s make it a party! We know the work day has been hard.
So, relax and hang out as your stylist duplicates that style from Pinterest you want with a unique touch. I felt there was a demand for a Rock & Roll blow dry/makeup bar to pre-party and pamper yourself for that night out on the town or just to come in and get that perfect blowout, braid, haircut, scalp massage, extensions or just a style before your work week. We just want to create a fun relaxed vibe that makes our customers want to keep coming back. The Blow Down doesn’t just have a prescribed set of hairstyles, our vibe is incredibly individualized and edgy.
We approach each customer as an individual and promote creativity catered to that customer’s particular style. We have an inspiration board like so many of our clients, and we change it regularly to keep the creative wheels turning: in your minds and ours.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
Huntington Beach is a great place to operate a business because the locals are incredibly supportive of the small locally owned businesses! They will choose that small business over a chain every time. The challenge with being in downtown Huntington Beach is when they have big events it sometimes discourages the locals from coming downtown due to the crowds. However, overall it is a wonderful location! We are steps from the beach, restaurants and shopping!
