Today we’d like to introduce you to Renata Oliveira.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
We are Brazilians, and my husband has always loved the United States. Since 1996 we have worked to improve people’s quality of life through exercise and good nutrition. Guided by the Holy Spirit in 2015, we had the opportunity to open Daily Breath Pilates in Westlake Village, California. We sold our house in Brazil and invested all the money in this new project. For many people, this was insane, but we trust in God. We were scared in the first two months after the opening because we had few clients, but the studio got packed after a great deal.
We have faced many challenges since we opened the studio;
– The language was the first one;
– We needed to learn the habits and customs of this community;
– In 2018, we faced the fear of the Woolsey fire. The city was evacuated, and some clients lost their homes and we were devastated by the borderline shooting that happened almost at the same time.
– In 2019, a lady lost her car control and destroyed the entrance of our studio. We stayed three months without an entry. Thank GOD no one was injured, as we had clients and a pilates teacher in the studio.
– During the 2020 Pandemic, the studio was closed for many months. During this time and until today, we offer virtual mat classes and keep all our instructors working. In October, we opened a tent in the parking lot and put all reformers outside, so clients could return to see each other and have the guidance of the instructors face-to-face with all the safety protocols. In November, I fell from a horse and broke the transverse process of four vertebras of my lumbar spine. Thanks to Jesus and to Pilates, I’m 100% ok.
– And the biggest challenge is that we must manage the business from Brazil.
However, all Daily Breath Pilates success will not be possible without our Pilates instructors angels: Sheri Abzug, Laura Diamond, Sabrina Dorian, Lisa Feeley, Claudine Stanley, and Chrissy Lomax, all of our amazing clients, and the real owner of this business – JESUS. We are a big family.
Thank you all for everything. We love you.
