Today we’d like to introduce you to Rebecca Bekele.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Rebecca. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I first began my journey with The Boundless Collection when I started studying social work in college. It was there that I discovered my passion for understanding the whole person and the power of empathy. I came to the realization that sharing our stories is a key element to reaching our fullest potential, going after our dreams, and empowering others to do the same.
When I looked around my community, I saw tons of creative people who were pursuing their passions and who I guessed had incredible stories. I started taking photos of them and interviewing them as a way to highlight their work, in hopes that others would see their stories and pursue their creative passions as well.
Now, The Boundless Collection is dedicated to the hard work of being and becoming who we were made to be through creativity and purpose. It is dedicated to elevating and empowering each other by recognizing the strength in community. It is a tribute to the power of storytelling and all the beauty and healing that happens when you give someone a seat at the table and remind them that their dream matters.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has definitely not been a smooth road. When I first came up with the idea for Boundless, there were so many things I had never done before, like creating a website, promoting on social media, and so much more. Something I talk about a lot is the mental resistance that comes with pursuing a creative passion, and people can face that in the form of fear, insecurity, creative blocks, etc. I experienced resistance throughout the whole process and it looked different each step of the way. In the beginning, it looked like fear of what people would think or fear that people would judge me – so I didn’t post anything about myself on the site or Instagram for a while. Later it looked like creative blocks and feeling stuck with where I was at creatively. I’m still learning that mental resistance comes when we are doing work that matters, something with purpose. What it came down to for me was choosing to sit, face whatever fears I had, and push through the voices telling me that I couldn’t do it. It was only then that I could clear up room in my mind to learn about how to tell stories effectively, how to create a website, social media, etc.
The Boundless Collection – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
The Boundless Collection’s mission is to create welcoming and safe spaces for people to feel connected to one another. We believe that creating safe spaces for people to tell their stories and feel seen and understood is the key to living to our fullest potential as human beings. We find our purpose when we can be unapologetically ourselves and encourage everyone around us to do the same. Boundless serves as a gathering space of stories of those who are devoting boundless energy to their passions, choosing to see and believe in their own limitless potential.
Boundless is focused on taking photos of people as a form of storytelling, in addition to written interviews with creatives as a way to highlight their stories. The platform also serves a resource center of sorts, in order for creatives to connect with each other and work together.
We’re proud of the fact that the whole mission is tied to people’s limitless and abundant potential. Our hope is to empower each other to overcome our greatest fears through sharing our stories, in turn building resilience to keep moving towards our dreams together.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success is trying. It’s pursuing your dreams, not knowing the outcome.
