Meet Ravinder Pilson of Bikram Yoga Santa Clarita

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ravinder Pilson.

Ravinder, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I grew up in Santa Clarita. After being turned onto Bikram Yoga years ago and having to travel out to the valley to take classes, I set myself up on a path to fill the void and open up a studio in my hometown. I have taught at the Bikram studios in Studio City, Encino and at the Bikram headquarters in Los Angeles.

Bikram Yoga Santa Clarita has now been open for over a year.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It took about a year and a half to finally open our doors. Originally, we were told it’d be two months to build out, so I was thinking six months…worst case scenario. It was difficult to get plans approved through the different departments in the city, and every little change they demanded would cost us time and money. Everything would have to go back and forth between the city, the architect, contractor, suppliers, engineers, etc. And, of course, your emergency isn’t their emergency, so a lot of “hurry up and wait.” No one cares that every little change is costing you thousands of dollars and so much time.

Being under construction for that long also left us as a target for several burglaries. We would get broken into, and materials and tools that we had just purchased would be stolen, again setting us back.

I’m so grateful to be done with construction, and, now having been open for over a year, having the place and amazing students in the community I envisioned!

We’d love to hear more about your business.
Bikram Yoga Santa Clarita offers a hot and humid room with the original 26 postures and 2 breathing exercises, scientifically designed to work all the major systems of the body from the inside out: Cardiovascular, Respiratory, Endocrine, Lymphatic, Central Nervous, Digestive, and Musculoskeletal. Every cell and organ in your body, from bones to skin—all receive benefits from this powerful yoga. Bikram Yoga is indeed an aerobic workout! Heart and lungs will learn to work together. We end the class with cool, lavender towels over your eyes to allow you to completely relax and absorb the benefits of the postures…a little dessert at the end of your workout!

We also offer Hot Pilates classes. Hot Pilates is an upbeat, energetic 60-minute mat class with music and light weights. It sculpts and tones your entire body, strengthens your core and improves your cardiovascular system! Hot Pilates is an amazing class to pair with Bikram Yoga. It’d be ideal to do twice a week with Bikram Yoga three times a week.

Bikram Yoga Santa Clarita features a new, state-of-the-art studio with mirrors, clean, rubber floors that don’t absorb smells and sweat, and utilize fresh air ventilation and humidification systems. Our radiant heating panels emit safe, long wave radiant heat in the far infrared spectrum, to which human skin is 98% receptive and penetrates the skin 1-1/2 inches deep. This deep heating reaches into the muscle tissues and internal organs.

We have yoga mats and towels for rent and for sale, and we offer a selection of protein drinks, smoothies, organic juices, water, yoga clothes and Hydro Flask bottles.

Changing rooms are equipped with showers, so you can rinse off after your workout before going back into the real world, making this practice easier to fit into your day.

What were you like growing up?
I grew up in Santa Clarita, an Indian, in what was then a very non-diverse and small town. My family was quite traditional and very focused on education. I went to local schools growing up, including Hart High, College of the Canyons, Cal State Northridge and Pepperdine University. My interests beyond school included music and working out. I’ve worked in the music industry and am still working in real estate. I am glad to have found a balance between working in real estate and the yoga studio.
