Meet Raquel Pomplun

Today we’d like to introduce you to Raquel Pomplun.

Raquel, before we jump into specific questions about your work, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
It all started because I wanted to pay my college. I had been in the modeling industry all my teenage years, so modeling was second nature to me. After many ideas were discussed, Playboy came into the picture. I was already married and my husband was totally on board, which, to be honest, was the push to go for it. So I submitted my pictures online, it was not long before Playboy contacted me for a test and ended up becoming Miss April 2012, and later the title of Playmate of the Year 2013.

This was just the beginning. I thought, well I have the money, now back to biochemistry. However, life had a different plan. Many opportunities came around, specifically the one of acting, and I just felt in love with it. I also did radio for about 5-6 years and hosted many events. I signed with print and commercial agencies and my artistic career has been blooming since. My latest venture has been stand up comedy and boy do I love it! So in a way, I’m glad things have happened the way they have, for my true destiny has laid right in my path.

Has it been a smooth road?
I believe being a smooth road or not, it comes down to perspective… it has not been handed to me, but I’ve always been a hard worker. So, sure, no artistic career is a smooth road, but I have enjoyed every step of it, with obstacles or not.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
I am and actress, model and comedian. I am also known for being Playboy’s 2013 Playmate for the year, first Mexican-American Playmate of the year, but this is ancient history now. I have also built a good social media presence and what I am proud of is that I have to opportunity to reach out to my audience to spread empowerment and positivity, which we could use always 🙂

I really don’t know what sets me apart from others, but what I can say is that I always strive to stay true to myself and not follow trends just because they are trends. Individuality is key to make this world more diverse and fun 🙂

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
No doubt! Los Angeles is the mecca of entertainment! However, I would warn them of the reality that this industry is: is no walk in the park… but if you are passionate and work hard, you can accomplish many things here in the city of angels.
