Today we’d like to introduce you to Randy Thrill$. They and their team shared their story with us below:
Randy Thrill$, a boundary-pushing artist hailing from Brisbane, Queensland, is known for his unique blend of new-wave punk and hip hop. Originally from Liberia, Randy Thrill$ embarked on his musical journey in 2016. Within a mere two months of recording, he unveiled his debut EP on Soundcloud, featuring the infectious reggae/hip hop fusion track titled “Paris,” which quickly became a fan favorite.
Randy Thrill$ is a new-wave punk hip-hop artist based in Brisbane, Queensland. A native of Liberia, whose musical enthusiasm led him to the art of making music in 2016.
In 2018, Randy debuted his first self-produced album ‘Unorthodox Randolph Music.’ The album engaged 500 monthly listeners on Spotify with the standout track ‘Crazy Blazing Man.’
In 2019, Randy released his second self-produced album, ‘RUN IT BACK,’ a mixture of RNB/hip-hop with various features. Referring to his earlier years, Randy released his 3rd album ’TODAY’ in 2020, along with a music video for the single ‘Faith.’
In 2021, ‘RCKSTR’, the fourth album was released. RCKSTR was an experimental project that showcased Randy’s persona and aesthetic in both the visual and sonic language. The album draws from his punk roots and showcases Randy in an alternative light to his previous albums.
2022, Saw Randy Thrill$ hit a major milestone with his first TV appearance for his high-energy music video ‘ROCK N ROLL’, which was on a 6-month run with MTV (Foxtel Channel 803). A song that represents his newly crafted New-wave punk Hip Hop.
2023 saw Randy make his return with an exciting new single ‘Walked Away.’ This time, Randy Thrill$ joined forces with Sydney-based indie producer and mixer, James Christowski. Known for his exceptional production. ‘Walked Away’ featured in Purple Sneakers & Electric Dreams Media (Interviews), CADA radio (KSERA & Dirty Dozen), and VICE AU weekly playlist.
2024 Randy prepares to drop his Album ‘Punk Of Luv’ applying late pressure with what he notes as his “Best Hip-Hop Punk/Rock track yet” ‘Point Of Diz’, capturing the attention of his listeners in anticipation of his upcoming10 tracks project.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Most definitely not; it has not been a smooth road. I believe the modern challenge of being an artist is finding a niche and executing it well. In my early career, I found it difficult to differ from the rest of the pack in terms of music and “Brand”. As the years progressed, I think that has now organically formed itself where I can call myself a ROCKSTAR. Now that I’m in a new phase of my career, I find that the current challenges are working with the right people and generally surrounding myself with matching mindsets and creative outlooks.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m Randy Thrill$, and I’m an artist (rapper/songwriter).
I’m known for being a “ROCKSTAR”, I’m confident to say I’m known for pushing the boundaries of Hip-Hop and pun-rock in the Australian music scene, with sounds that have not been heard before and out-of-this-world music videos.
I’m most proud of my progression as an artist, from music to style and persona. I’m also most proud of being on MTV for about 6+ months for my music video, ‘ROK N ROLL.’ I always loved watching MTV as a kid and to be on TV for such a long time meant a lot to me.
I believe what sets me apart is my unique approach to music; I want to push boundaries and make sounds that people have never heard before. I believe that is very evident in my recent album PUNK OF LUV.
Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the COVID-19 crisis?
To be very honest, nothing new.
Just the fact that we all can get whipped out due to a single virus, like the thought of that is very real to me since COVID.
