Meet Rami Essa

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rami Essa.

Rami, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Oh we taking it back! Well, I grew up in Maryland (AYY DMV!) and had always known I wanted to be some kind of an entertainer (for a long time I thought I was gonna be a singer…which still could happen ok!). I really hadn’t thought of being an actor until the seventh grade, when the school held a Shakespearean monologue contest that I surprisingly won (that trophy still sits on my nightstand). So since then, I focused on acting/performing on stage, went to community college (for a little to long) and got my degree in Theatre. I then made the leap to Los Angeles, started taking classes at UCB, and now I’m performing as a sketch performer on a house sketch team as well as a writer/performer on the current run of the character house team.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
ABSOLUTELY NOT! I think my biggest struggles involved me being in my head and thinking will people find what I’m doing funny as opposed to just performing what I find funny. I’m also super hard on myself after a performance, even if it went well, I tend to over-analyze and think of ways I could have done better. It’s a non-stop roller coaster of rejection, confusion, depression, but at the end of the day it makes me happy.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
Rami is giving you actor, writer, comedian, abstract dancer, singer (tenor), passport carrier, dunkin donut loving goodness topped with a beautiful fro (look at that homegrown sexiness)! It may sound silly, but my proudest moment was definitely making the move to LA. I had a lot of fear making the move out here (fear of failure, being broke, and or dying in these streets), but I did it and I’m really proud of the path I’m on.

What set’s Rami apart from everyone is Rami is Rami. You see everyone is unique and has a story to tell, Rami’s stories in particular are fucking crazy! Can I say fuck in this? Feel free to bleep that out…but if it’s ok….fuck fuckity fuck ayyyyyy, and that’s on period!
