Today we’d like to introduce you to Rajanee Wright.
Hi Rajanee, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
When I was a little girl you couldn’t get me away from a camera. My family always said “she stays camera ready.” In 2018 i decided i wanted to become a model so i reached out to my first photographer, Alana Porter. After that shoot, I began to work with other photographers to build my model portfolio.
During this journey I did a lot of networking events such as photoshoot meetups. That helped me connect with others in the industry.
Years later i did have some issues with my confidence because i started gaining weight. I didn’t think I had what it takes because of social media. The internet shows you what the “ideal model” should look like. I didn’t really see any representation in magazines or on the runway. It took me some time to realize that beauty comes in all shapes, colors, and sizes. I didn’t need to be someone else, i just needed to learn how to love me, my body, and surround myself with positive people.
I began to book shoots that helped me express my authentic self and all my curves. I also started booking inclusive runway shows that aimed to make everyone feel seen.
In this industry you will get a lot of no’s instead of yes’s and that is fine. You just have to keep going and don’t give up on what you want. You deserve everything this world has to offer. For example, I applied for Hawaii Swim Show in 2023 and I didn’t get selected. I had to tell myself that it was not my time. I applied again for the 2025 Hawaii Swim Show and finally got selected.
An advice I have for you and what I have to tell myself is “never give up on something you really want. It’s difficult to wait, but it’s more difficult to regret.”
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road has been pretty rough. In 2023-2024 my mom was diagnosed with
recurrent breast cancer Stage 4. I had to juggle taking care of my mom, work a 9 to 5 job, and my modeling career.
My mom passed away July 31st 2024 and I had to put my career on pause. She was my friend, my confidant, and my biggest cheerleader. Before my mom passed away she told me how proud she was of me and to follow my dreams.
Everyday I think of her and what she said. Her words keep me going. I resumed my journey and everything is going well! She is always with me when I accomplish my goals. I just came back from walking in the 2025 Hawaii Swim Show and I know she’s looking down on me with a smile.
I’m doing this for her and myself!!! This is just the beginning, I have more goals to accomplish.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a runway/print model. I’ve been modeling for 7 years now. My photos have been published in a few magazines such as Vigour magazine, Lyun’ Plus- Size, and Gezno magazine. Also it was also published in the Vogue Italia.
I’m also a model coach and body positivity coach for a non profit organization called Kids Fashion Week Network. Ive been working with Kids Fashion Week Network for 5 years now.
My position is to coach Southern California youth participants for an annual runway show with my team.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up I was an adventurous and photogenic kid.
I always loved being outside because everyday was a new adventure I had to accomplish with my stuff animals.
My parents would tell me how photogenic I was. They couldn’t get me away from a camera. I would always want to take photos of myself and everything around me. One day they had to hide the camera from me, but I ended up finding it.
Today, I’m still that adventurous and photogenic person. I have a bucket list and I’ve done 7 things so far. I’ve been skydiving, paragliding, shark cage diving and more.
And the photogenic person I am today still can’t get away from a camera.
