Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel Siegel.
Hi Rachel, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m from a town in southern New Jersey that, my family jokes, “has more cows and pigs than people” and singing was literally my first language. I was constantly making up songs and vocalizing to myself, it was something I always did just for me. Eventually, there was a song in my heart I couldn’t help but share. I wrote and performed this song at a church talent show, and it changed my life. I fell completely in love with the craft of songwriting and was totally swept away that I could find words to tell my own story.
I studied songwriting at Berklee College of Music and like so many creatives, LA called my name. It’s been a wild, surprising journey that’s taught me more than I could have imagined. I hit my seven-year mark this year, and I feel like I’m hitting my stride more than ever before. I write honest songs and help people tell their stories. I’m so excited that fans are resonating with my vulnerable authenticity, and I hope by continuing to show up fully, I’ll keep growing, finding, and building my tribe.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Is it ever a smooth road and, if so, what would be the fun in that? No, seriously it’s been a mess a lot of the time, with more grief and sorrow than I’d like to admit. My debut album, Heart Injuries are Cumulative, is all about it and I invite anyone who needs a friend in their grief to listen and be held exactly where they are.
However, right now, I’m laser-focused on enjoying the journey and finding ways to show up braver and louder than before. There’s so much noise, and I’m going to find a way to cut through it.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a master at finding a simple way to express your most complicated emotions. I believe we need each other and by being vulnerable, we end up less alone, going through it together. I write songs for people to live their lives to, the soundtrack of your love, loss, or moving-forward story. These are the songs we’ll show our grandkids because they helped us realize we were strong enough the whole time.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Right now, Joy is my mission and there are so many things making me happy. I love cooking and make it a whole creative process where I invent recipes. I’m wearing outrageously vibrant colors on most days, making sure my outside matches my inside. Singing LOUDLY. Taking walks, discovering things, and being with my people. I’m actively making a choice to feed my soul every day, which is very happy.
