Meet Rachel Alexander of Empire Sun Projects in West Hollywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel Alexander.

Rachel, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I was a fashion model for around 15 years traveling all over Europe, NYC, and LA.

Recently, my good friend and model, Kenza Fourati, and I started a creative content and production company for purpose-driven brands. Our friends were starting their own companies. We not only LOVED their products but enjoyed using them ourselves, and wanted to get their message out into the world!

There have been so many learning lessons, and doubts, and mistakes along the way but starting something that I really believe in, working with brands and women that I want to succeed makes it all worth it.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
There have been so many successes and struggles in this short time. I’ve learned everything from my long road modeling and being behind the scenes on so many different types of shoots, but the main thing is just in the doing.

Jumping in and allowing yourself to make mistakes and learn on the job. I didn’t go to college, or intern at a big company… I just had a strong WHY, helping brands I personally believed in, and wanted to do everything I could.

Starting something new has been scary, and there are times of doubt. Should I have taken the safe road? Worked for years at a big company? But ultimately, working every day on something bigger than myself makes life more exciting and purposeful.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Empire Sun Projects – what should we know?
I started empire sun projects with my best friend, Kenza Fourati. We create content and produce shoots that focus on bringing real, dynamic, and thought-provoking ideas to life.

We started empire sun because as longtime fashion models our friends in the industry were starting their own companies that we not only believed in but also enjoy using ourselves.

Everything from multifunctional makeup, to organic skin oils, or candles with a message, to lingerie for women by women… We loved their products and wanted to help create each story with content that’s true to them.

We’re passionate about working with people and brands that create a positive impact. Our newest campaign for the125collection candles will come out later this month. Featuring the founders in their backyard in Harlem on super eight films!

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
So many people deserve credit along the way! All of the photographers, art directors, makeup artists, hair stylists, designers, videographers on all of the shoots I’ve been on the last 15 years. I’ve learned so much from their distinct creative process.

Also, all the female founders that have been so gracious to trust our vision this past year. Angela Shore of Jiva- Apoha, Joy, and Valerie of the125collection, Amy founder of Reveliers, Lindsay Ellingson founder of Wander Beauty are just a few.
