Today we’d like to introduce you to Quron Witherspoon.
Hi Quron, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Music has been the bloodline behind everything I creatively do since I was ten. Joining the Air Force gave me a view of the entire world, over 40 countries, for eight years. While I was in, I went to a NERD concert and ended up on stage with Pharrell. Changed my life man, he brought me back to the music. I got out and lived in Florida, which rebirth my vision for filming that ended up launching my career as a cinematographer and director. Surrounding myself with so many celebrities and social lites, I made sure I seized every opportunity, provided the best content for them as uniquely and quickly as possible. I believe over the course of those 12 years of developing myself as a creative, I’m now able to blend all of my talents composing original music, cinematic visuals and raw editing that got me where I am today.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not at all. Nothing smooth at ALL but see, that’s the beauty in it. At leads for me I say that. I do my best to see a different perspective in what life throws my way. When you’ve decided to go off on your own, bet on yourself and work in the industry it’s almost guaranteed you’ll have so many rugged paths. There was a time in my career that I was bouncing around for five years without a home, little to no income. It’s like that most of the time. It’s almost like you’re staring in the face of all your fears and then you realize there are so many constructs and distractions in life that things were set in place to stifle you. Society wants you to remain controlled to a narrative they’ve created. I wasn’t having that at ALL. Once I got over that fear and just enjoyed the beauty of being FREE to do what I do best, thats when the blessings came. So, yea no one wants to live in their car for months and couch surf for years, but let me tell you… when you get over that idea of fear itself, you’ll scale that mountain and enjoy the view. It’s worth every scar man.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a musician first, however the industry first got familiar with me as a Cinematographer and Director of film. Today I am now filming and also composing the music behind all my work. I enjoy every moment of it too! Most thing I’m especially proud of is showing my daughter a fine example of a father I am while balancing my skills and working for myself. Proudest moment ever to teach her the ways of owning your own. What sets me apart is something most tell me that took me some time to realize! It’s the combination of the music and how I compliment it with the films I create. It’s the perfect relationship and right chemistry every time.
Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
Man, just be GREAT and have a wonderful time doing it. Control the narrative. Control the narrative. CONTROL THE NARRATIVE. You own your own destiny. Just don’t get distracted. Seriously.
