Meet Will Thompson of ProTrainerUSA.com in Beverly Hills

Today we’d like to introduce you to Will Thompson.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
For the last 4 Seasons, I’ve had the pleasure of been employed by the STARZ network as the Personal Fitness Trainer, Nutritionist and Consultant to Jessie Usher for his lead role as Pro Basketball star Cam Calloway, on STARZ hit series “SurMedical Exercise Specialistvivor’s Remorse” by executive producers LeBron James (NBA All-Star) and Tom Warner (Owner of The Boston Red Sox). As well as being the Personal Trainer to the Creator, Show-runner, and Executive Producer Mike O’Malley along with other members.

With over 25 years of experience, I started working as a trainer in Los Angeles at Sports Club LA (which was world famous at the time). At Sports Club LA, I had the privilege of training actors, entertainers, and professional athletes including MLB Hall of Famer Dave Winfield, the year he was the Captain of the World Series Champion Toronto Blue Jays!

After training at Sports Club LA, I developed my independent personal training service: with clients like Branford Marsalis at the Tonight Show, Tisha Campbell of Martin, Joseph C. Phillips and Leeza Gibbons of the Leeza show that was filmed at Paramount Studios in Hollywood. That opportunity allowed my business to be invited to be based at the Paramount Studios Executive Gym. There I trained clients including David Boreanaz of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angele, Singer Debra Cox and Oscar nominated Director John Singelton.

While training from Paramount Studios Gym, I began being featured on TV like BET’s Screen Scene, and in magazines including Men’s Fitness magazine as one of “Hollywood’s Top Trainers”

After being recognized by Men’s Fitness, I became one of the Fitness Experts for Men’s Fitness magazine’s “Ask Our Experts” column. There I helped to answer the personal fitness and training questions (often pertaining to exercises for training around and improve injuries) of their over one million readers.

While a contributor to Men’s Fitness magazine, I was also featured with client Dave Navarro on NBC’s EXTRA entertainment news show and in magazines like Men’s Journal and Rolling Stone magazine. During that time, I had the pleasure of working with music, TV and Film Producer Dallas Austin, J.C. Chasez of ‘Nsync, award winning actor JK Simmons, Oscar nominated actor Rosey Perez and more.

In the years to follow, I trained clients at CBS Studio Center including Michael Boatman of “Spin City”, Elise Neal and DL Hughley on “The Hiughleys”, Traylor Howard on “Two Guys and a Girl”, Rachel True star of “Half and Half” and Mike O’Malley. star of “Yes Dear.”

After appearing on NBC’s EXTRA, I was seen by Erik Estrada and was called by Erik to train him for The Discovery Health Channel’s Body Challenge: Hollywood and MTV’s Surreal Life.

As the years have gone by, my clients have also included Olympic Athletes, Hall of Famers, All-Stars, World Champions and Award Winning Professional Athletes and National Record Holders, as well as Award Winning Actors and Entertainers.

While training Jessie T. Usher the first season of “Survivor’s Remorse” in 2014. I introduced Jessie to my client of over 20 years Movie Writer/Producer Harald Kloser who was in the development of the sequel to “Independence Day”. That introduction lead me to pitching Jessie for the principal role of “Dylan Hiller” in “Independence Day: Resurgence”. (“Dylan Hiller” is the son of Will Smith’s character “Captain Steven Hiller” who was not in the sequel.) After the “Survivor’s Remorse” Pilot was finished I asked my client Mike O’Malley the Writer/Creator and Executive Producer of the show if I could give a copy to Harald, Mike gave me his blessing. I got the pilot to Harald which lead to Jessie meeting with the Director Roland Emmerich and eventually Jessie landing the role of “Captain Dylan Hiller” in “Independence Day: Resurgence”.
A year later in 2015, I had the pleasure of training Jessie for “Independence Day: Resurgence”, while also training him for season 2 of “Survivor’s Remorse”.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you? What was one of the most challenging moments?
When I was featured on BET’s Screen Scene, they interviewed me about how I came back from a crippling rear-end car crash and 2 back surgeries to train Dave Winfield when he was Captain of the World Series Champion Toronto Blue Jays and become a top Hollywood trainer and in their words a “fitness guru.”

Approximately 25% to 30% of adult obesity cases begin with childhood (pediatric) obesity. A history of being overweight in childhood that persists into adulthood is associated with more severe complications of obesity later in life.

A general health assessment and fitness evaluation is offered to all of our clients.
