Today we’d like to introduce you to Pretty G.
Pretty G, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I would like to start this interview by saying thank God for where I’m at today! If it wasn’t for Him, I don’t know where I’ll be. It’s always a conversation when people ask me what I do. I’m a man of all trades but I like to describe myself as an Author and Courtier which is a handmade designer. On the other side of things, I’m a Recording Artist and Stylist, so my life a little hectic but learning to manage everything. Where it all started for me was watching my mother growing up in all types of fancy outfits. She was always well put together and that just stuck with me for life. That inspiration from my mother and her struggle put a fuel in me to build my own fashion house and company like the amazing designers Gianni Versace, Jean Paul Gualtier, Daniel “Dapper Dan” Day, Christian Dior, just to name a few. That same fuel is why I’m here today along with other trials and tribulations. Like I mentioned in my 2019 VoyageLa October interview, the passing of my best friend Sabrina Saint-Louis who’s was and still a fashion Icon will continue to fuel me for the rest of my life. Another obstacle I faced December 11th, 2019, I got into a deadly car accident where I had to undergo a 7 hour surgery! Literally two inches away from death. So being able to tell you guys this story is just a blessing and more motivation. That near death accident just woke me up even more. I understand my purpose and that is to share my art to the world! Gods Plan, Sabs Plan!
Has it been a smooth road?
It’s never a smooth road to greatness especially where I’m from. Boston, MA is just crabs in a bucket. There’s no market for what I want to accomplish. My visions are bigger than myself, so I’m hard to really understand. Moving to North Hollywood was the perfect move for me. Bigger market where you can find other people who understand your vision or know someone who can help. I have been back and forth from Boston to LA for the past two years connecting the dots, networking with the right groups of people to help me reach my goals. So the only move that made sense was go where it’s clicking for you. The struggling will be coming to an end now living and building in LA!
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Pretty Fleur – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
My businesses are my fashion company, Pretty Fleur, my styling company UpscaleStyling that I co-own, and my coloring book series TheABCsOf, that I also co-own. Out of the three, I am most proud of my coloring book series. It’s one of a kind and something that will be passed on for generations. I plan on releasing a second series early next year with my partner Jeff Dec, and I couldn’t be more proud for this one! And this is what separates me from everyone else. I’m an Artist who does music, but my passion is fashion designing, like most artists where I’m from or any big or local artist is general, the music is always first for them, I’ll stop doing music today and be just fine, but I use music as a tool to display my art which is my fashion. Co Directing my own fashion films, displaying different styles in photoshoots, designing garments is what you can say I’m known for, at the same time making luxury quality music! Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
What I like about my city is the business opportunities, Boston a great city to grow a business and make some money! Great food in our city also! What I dislike is the “crabs in one bucket” mentality my city has. Everyone wants to be the star but has no star drive. No market for the fashion or music scene so pursuing any of those lanes will be difficult out here. I had no choice but to leave but my team GYB and I will be the first to bring a real market back to our city. The market is always needed!
