Today we’d like to introduce you to Preston Bruner.
Preston, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’ve wanted to be an actor since I was around ten. I was always enamored with television, storytelling, and character work, but I had crippling stage fright. It wasn’t until I was 16 where I finally swallowed my fears and said “let’s do it.” Easily the best decision I’ve ever made. As the years went by, I began to broaden my horizons by adding writing, stand up comedy voice acting to my arsenal. I moved to LA at 19 years old and the rest is history, as they say.
Has it been a smooth road?
Not exactly. As I said previously, I dealt with really bad stage fright for almost all of my childhood. However, another reason I was afraid of being on stage was because I’m gay. I didn’t want any more attention on myself than I was already given. Whether it be positive or negative, I was always too afraid to find out. Luckily, through time and a great psychiatrist, I was able to overcome my anxiety enough to perform.
Also, I’m currently living with PTSD after being stabbed by a sibling. I’ll keep the details of the situation to myself, but PTSD is really no joke. It’s by far the hardest thing I’ve ever had to go through. It’s a daily struggle, but I refuse to completely victimize myself. I’m proud to say it’s been well over five years since and I’m still going strong.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I’m an actor, writer, voice actor, and I dabble in stand up comedy. I’ve been in and around the arts since I was 16 years old. You can find me as Nathan in the film Brown Paper Bag, which is on Amazon Prime. I am currently represented by Making Stars Talent Agency under Desi Nicole.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love LA because of the hustle and bustle. Sure, it may be the reason traffic is so horrible, but the thing about being surrounded by people that are constantly busy is that it makes you want to be busy! It’s almost impossible not to. I mean, look where we’re at.
That being said, it’s unfortunate that some get caught up in more materialistic ideas about the city without realizing that it’s just that, a city. When you moved here, you were at the bottom just like everyone else and all it takes is a couple of bad decisions to end up right back at square one.
