Meet Lynda Malerstein of Power Journeys Hypnosis

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lynda Malerstein.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Lynda. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Before I became a hypnotherapist I had successful careers as an executive recruiter and a professional children’s entertainer, but I never felt fulfilled,

Throughout my life, I struggled with problems that I was unable to resolve by traditional therapy. Finally I found that hypnosis was the process that helped me heal deep physical and emotional wounds quickly and powerfully.  It helped me achieve success and release from anxiety, early childhood trauma, bulimia, chronic illness, and chronic back pain.

During one of my own hypnosis sessions the thought came up from my subconscious mind, “Wow, I could do this work myself”. I began to explore resources available here in Los Angeles to help me begin.

From my first class, I felt a passion for the work and I knew that doing hypnotherapy was my life’s purpose. I wanted to help others achieve the same success and peace that I experienced. This was in 1999. My passion has never waned. Every day that I work with clients is a joy to me.

After receiving my initial certification I became a growth technique junkie. I travelled all over the country to attend trainings in a number of hypnosis and other personal growth specialties.

I became Board Certified by the National Guild of Hypnotists, the largest hypnosis organization in the world. In addition to my hypnosis certifications, I studied EFT extensively with Gary Craig, the founder of EFT, and Steve Wells and David Lake who have adapted EFT into a complementary process called PET, a provocative style of therapy that uses humor to create healing.

Has it been a smooth road?
It was a lot smoother than it was bumpy.

In the beginning, when hypnosis was relatively unknown, it was a struggle to convince potential clients that I was not going to make them quack like a duck like they have seen in stage shows. Or that I wasn’t going to control their minds. The unrealistic portrayal of hypnosis in the media causes misunderstanding. There is still a lot of ignorance about what hypnosis is and isn’t. That’s the only challenge but I’m able to educate people and dispel their concerns in the free 20 minute phone consultation.

Since clients achieve success in an average of 4 to 8 sessions there is a need to constantly bring in new clients in an ever growing competitive market for hypnotists in Los Angeles. But now that hypnosis has become more mainstream and more and more articles are being written about its efficacy, (also because of my many years of experience), I am able to fill my schedule relatively easily. Referrals and some generous Yelp reviews have helped a lot.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Power Journeys Hypnosis – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
What sets me apart is the wisdom and intuition I have gained from my years of life and personal growth experience. I am known for my warmth and the safe space I create. I am also known for helping clients find the healing that is inside of them and achieving success in a short period of time.

Since I have overcome an eating disorder I have a specialty in weight and body issues. I also specialize in helping clients overcome lifelong struggles with anxiety. I am proud of that. I am proud when I help a client overcome a physical condition after doctors have told them that they just have to learn to live with it. I am proud when a client trusts me enough to send a loved one to work with me. I am proud of the numbers of clients who credit their work with me to enabling them to find their life partner. In fact, one even invited me to her wedding. That was pretty awesome.

I also use an eclectic mix of processes in addition to traditional hypnosis. I practice the A.R.T. system of hypnotherapy (Affirm, Release, Transform); a hypnosis process where the client is an active participant rather than a passive listener. Only a select few practitioners across the globe have been trained in this powerful and effective technique. Also, as I’ve mentioned, I have extensive training in EFT (tapping) and a process called Focusing. Focusing is a body-based technique that helps to confirm inner knowing.

I am one of only a few practitioners in Los Angeles who has been trained in HypnoFertility (R) to help women who are trying to get pregnant.

One other thing that sets me apart is the help of my therapy dog assistant Howie. He helps my clients relax before they even sit in the recliner. I have included a picture of him working hard at his job.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I LOVE LOS ANGELES. I love the progressiveness of Los Angeles. I love the creativity. I’m a theater fanatic and I love the opportunity to see Broadway shows without going to New York. I love the open-mindedness of Angelinos. It is a true melting pot here. There are so many choices. I love the diversity. I love the culture. I love the variety of healthy food in restaurants. I love the Kale eaters. I love that movies and TV shows are made here. I love the beaches and the mountains. We have everything here. It is never boring.

What I like least is traffic and rising rents. But it’s all worth it to live here.
