Today we’d like to introduce you to Porcia Hendrix.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
It all started the day I started walking on my tippy toes at the age of 2, and my nana said, “LETS PUT HER IN DANCE” From ballet tap combo classes in South Carolina to ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop, contemporary, musical theatre and gymnastics in Las Vegas, NV.
I knew that I wanted to become a professional dancer and was going to make sure I reached that goal in life. I knew with the amount of hours of training that I put in constantly my dreams were going to come true. From waking up, going to school, dancing at school, dancing after school, dancing at my studio (Summerlin Dance Academy), cleaning the studios, going to competition when it was that time of year and maintaining as a high-grade student…. nothing was going to come between me and and my goals in Dance. Countless driving for a child whose mom was a single parent, active duty military, front desk studio employee/manager and dance competition merchandise manager.. she never stopped making sure this dream was not interrupted…Thank you mom for being my ROCKSTAR!! After graduating from Las Vegas Academy of Performing Arts High School in Dance Theatre with honors it was now my time to step into the big world! Living in Vegas you already know that there is entertainment opportunity right at your feet. I took my chance right out of high school and hopped right in by working at an amusement park as a performer in North Carolina and also being a magician’s assistant on the Las Vegas Strip.
But I wanted more, I wanted something new. I wanted to work with huge choreographers and be in front of the Lights, CameraS, and apart of the the action. That meant the next step awaite if I moved to Los Angeles. That day came and I have graduated from AMDA College and Conservatory of Performing Arts in the Dance Theatre Conservatory Program in Hollywood. After attending AMDA, I have encountered new friendships/relationships, new styles of dance, new opportunities, and A whole new beginning of what would lie ahead of my career. I am currently signed with MSA Talent Agency, touring with a YouTube American Indian Artist and have more than I can count on one hand of side jobs throughout LA.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Let me say it hasn’t been an easy road, but I am blessed of all the obstacles and challenges that I have faced along the way. It’s never easy to wake up for an audition because you know you’re about to put your mind, body, and soul in a mental and physical situation that could end in any possible way of the unknown. Especially if it’s a dream job you have always wanted, you’re going to give your full 100% and show off all your skills that you have trained in your life to do! Then you arrive to the audition and there are over 900 people present wanting the same job you want and there is only 10 spots…. That sounds crazy but it’s true and I will say it never stopped me it only made me stronger! I never took the easy way out. I loved the struggle I loved the push. I love the challenges I had to face along the way. It made me appreciate God, my mom and life even more and work harder! I grew up in a city that never sleeps, so I would work so hard and would never sleep. I have learned lessons and faced my fears to know who Porcia Hendrix is and make sure she is never forgotten! I would sweat, bleed, cry, train, and work hours that wasn’t normal for others. But I am blessed and thankful of the many opportunities I have been given to this day of knowing that 1,000 No’s can turn one Yes into endless possibilities along the way.
Tell us more about the business.
Here’s a little bit about what I have done and what I am doing at the moment. I have worked in a variety of music videos, endless LA based entertainment shows, multiple tv shows, and now touring with a Top YouTube Bollywood Indian Artist around the world.
From dancing with Pharrell to singing in a choir with Carrie Underwood. I wanted to do more with my career. Which along the way lead to a Beach Body Dance Fitness Series (Country Heat), dancing in “The Middle” tv show, “Disney Descendants 2” on Dancing with the Starz, and even being a lovely unicorn on Ardys Radio Disney Awards. I have danced for the WNBA LA Sparks for 2 seasons performing in the Staples Center during the summertimes. Still working all my other side hustle jobs which are catering, assisting choreographers around the world, working front desk at 3 dance studios, teaching dance, working at a fitness studio and all the gigs when the weekend approached, I ended up adding one more dance style along the way. I hopped in a Bollywood audition and that just set me apart from others. Bollywood entered into my life and has brought me to one of the biggest jobs I have to this day. I am currently a part of a LA based Bollywood company, Karmagraphy. Directed by Kavita Rao, bringing me endless Bollywood gigs that I never thought I could ever do or would ever do. Also, it has given me the chance to make my tour dreams Bollywood style. In which, I am now touring with Top YouTube American Indian Artist, Vidya Vox. I have traveled across the world for 3 years with her from South Africa to all over India to Thailand and even a little island called Mauritius. Never in my wildest dreams would I have pictured myself in some exotic places on this planet. In which, what sets me apart from others I feel is the versatility of styles and energy I can give on command of any job or opportunity that is put in front of me. You want me to dance for 15 mins, change in a new outfit, serve trays for 15 mins, change in a new outfit, pose as a tree for 30 mins for a check…… Hire Me!!
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
The role of luck in my life will always be good luck. But truly blessed by Gods luck. I say my prayers every day and slip in a 10 min meditation of life to bring out the good never the bad. Yes, we all have OUR good and bad days that’s normal. But nevertheless, will I let bad luck encounter or come in between my God, my family and the good that has played a huge role in my journey. I’m thankful and blessed to still be living in LA with my loving fiancé that I met in college, do what I love to do and able to grow more and more and learn more and more on a daily! Adulthood and luck don’t grow on trees, but it does grow when you add GOD, the energy of confidence and many supplements along way.
