Meet Pooja Sethiya

Today we’d like to introduce you to Pooja Sethiya.

Hi Pooja, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started in 2013, it’s been almost ten years since I started. As a kid or a teen, I had different plans, I wanted to become an event manager and have my own company. Which I eventually did when I was 19, I did start a company with my friends and we organized events for a bit but it was not exciting to me after some time so one day I enrolled myself into a makeup school and since then I’ve never looked back. I’m blessed to have found my passion, doing makeup feels like meditation to me. All these years I have only worked on becoming better as an artist, I’m certified from different artists all over the world. I was originally based in Bangalore, India but in 2021 I decided to enroll myself to another makeup school and learn more about prosthetics & SFX and that decision just changed my life. I fell in love with LA and now I’m a full-time makeup artist working in my favourite city in the world.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
When you have no one guiding you, it’s never a smooth path, ten years ago this was not even considered as a serious career option back in India. When I started everyone around me thought it was just a hobby and no one took my job seriously but I always believed in myself and I knew consistency is the key, I was patient with myself and allowed myself to explore, learn and grow. And as a freelancer, there’s always a struggle to constantly find new clients which can be challenging.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a professional makeup artist, I specialize in beauty, bridal, prosthetics and SFX makeup. In my early days, I did only beauty/bridal makeup so that definitely is my comfort zone. It’s been two years that I got introduced to the world of prosthetic makeup and it’s so fascinating. I basically do everything from editorial to tv/film to weddings. And that sets me apart since I can be more flexible with every style of makeup.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The most important lesson I have learnt is to be consistent and never stop learning. Learning from artists with more experience will help you grow professionally and personally. If you have a learning attitude throughout the entirety of your life, it will help you become more rounded, educated & a fulfilled individual.
