Meet Pippa Hairston Turner of 4D Health and Fitness and Gone to Glory Ministries

Today we’d like to introduce you to Pippa Hairston Turner.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I have always been physically active. During childhood, I was involved in dance (tap, ballet, jazz). In adulthood, I became involved in aerobics, lifting weights, and hiking in the Blue Ridge Mountains. While attending Payne Theological Seminary in Ohio, I decided to participate in an online transformation challenge. After that challenge was over, my daughter suggested that I compete in bodybuilding competitions. Initially, I was very reluctant at the thought of standing in front of hundreds of people in a two piece posing suit!

After some time and continued encouragement by my daughter, I decided to give it a try. I contacted a local trainer, Bobby Turner, owner of 4D Health and Fitness and hired him to be my trainer in preparation for my first competition. I trained for six months and stepped on the stage for the first time at 49 years of age! Since then, I have competed in Masters Figure/Bikini and have won two championships and have always placed in the Top 5. I am now married to my trainer/coach who encourages and supports me unconditionally!

My other business Gone to Glory Ministries came about during my time as a Hospice Chaplain. I am ordained in the AME Church and pastored a church, and now I serve on the ministerial staff at a local church in The Bay Area. During my time at Hospice, I officiated many Homegoing Services where I delivered the eulogy. I discovered that this was something I loved to do, helping families commemorate their loved ones. Therefore, I started my own eulogy writing service to assist those who need help putting their feelings into words.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The struggles along the way are what comes along with running a business, the long hours involved, getting your name out into the community, and establishing yourself as a reputable business. However, the time involved is worth the effort when you see your success!

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the 4D Health and Fitness, LLC and Gone to Glory Ministries (2 businesses) story. Tell us more about the business.
As far as 4D Health and Fitness, we train all ages from teenagers to senior citizens! We train competitors and non-competitors. At one point, we had 80 members on our team, before moving to California.

We are most proud of the long term changes that have been made to our client’s lifestyles. They realize the importance of taking care of themselves in order to live a healthier and more productive life.

With Gone to Glory Ministries, I am most proud of the comfort we bring to families during their time of loss. Loss of a loved one is devastating, we strive to bring a sense of comfort to those left behind.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I don’t believe in “luck.” I have the faith that God provides whatever we need to succeed.

Yes this is very inspiring. Since retiring from the military in 2005 I have not practiced any form of exercise. I will be out of town March 1-9 but would like to consult with you when I return.
