Today we’d like to introduce you to Pink $ock.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I grew up in Santa Monica, right by the beach, so it was only a matter of time until I embraced the sound of smooth music. In 2016 I put my guitar pedals away, smoked enough weed to understand synthesizers, and started drinking kombucha (daytime) and vodka cranberries (nighttime). I’m skipping the boring parts where I spent years learning how to play music and working service jobs. Let’s just focus on the vodka crans.
Please tell us about your art.
I make music that is about/for making love. If a romantic comedy was a band in 2020, that would be Pink $ock. Let’s be real, times are tough right now. Maybe they’ve always been. Point is, I don’t want to be a part of that energy. I want Pink $ock to be a celebration of love, sex and everything in between. I aim to make music that is interesting enough to listen to actively, but smooth enough to put on in the background, I don’t know, maybe when you’re hanging with your main squeeze… I don’t know.
We often hear from artists that being an artist can be lonely. Any advice for those looking to connect with other artists?
Being a human can be lonely! That loneliness can be a great motivating force. If you want to connect, you’re gonna have to get active and get off your ass. I can only speak to the world of music but I started out doing solo shows, and luckily there were some great musicians in the audience at many of these shows. Five of these audience members now make up the band. My art connected us, which originally was the product of many thousands of lonely hours.
How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
All of our music is online in all the familiar places. While I’m far from my goal of living solely off artisanal vegan Thai food and having my Tesla drive me wherever I desire, buying merch and streaming our music does truly help. Every cent helps to get a six-piece band out on tour. But until then, you can see us play in one of the many hip joints in Los Angeles.
